  • Publication number: 20230259181
Abstract: An add-in device (100) for use in a host server (300) is capable of operating for an extended time after the host server (300) stops providing power to the add-in device (100). The add-in device (100) may include a circuit board assembly (110) and a cover (120) that define a duct through the add-in device (100). An inlet (170) of the duct receives cooling air flow that the host (300) normally drives through the duct. A blower (160) inside the duct may operate from a backup power source (140) to pull air flow through the duct to maintain forced convection cooling when the host (300) fails to provide power or cooling air flow to the add-in device (100). The backup power can also continue operation of the device (100) to execute a shutdown procedure after the host fails.

  • Publication number: 20230262936
Abstract: A device such as an add-in card 100 for a computer system includes a circuit board assembly (110) and a cover (120). The cover (120) has two sides and a top extending between the sides. The sides contact a major surface of the circuit board assembly (110) adjacent to and along opposite edges. The cover (120) may protect electronic components of the circuit board assembly (110) and control air flows, flatness, and rigidity of a device. The cover (120) may further be sized and shaped to limit movement of electronic components of the circuit board assembly (110).

  • Publication number: 20230251301
Abstract: A carrier (220) for insertion of a device under test (210) into a tester (110) includes engagement structures (226, 234) and an integrated activator (236). The engagement structures (226, 234) are shaped to engage and hold the device under test (210) in the carrier (220) for insertion in tester (110). The activator (236) is positioned to automatically contact and activate a configuration component on the device under test (210). The activator (236) may particularly include a shunt positioned to electrically contact and short together configuration pins (216). The shorting or other activation sets an operating mode of the device under test (210) during testing.

  • Publication number: 20230112764
Abstract: Storage processing units or SPUs (120) operate backend storage (150) to provide scalable storage services, redundancy, and disaster recovery to an enterprise. Each SPU (120) may reside in a host server (110) and may include an processor domain (490) with backup power (440) and isolation from a host domain (480) to allow the SPU (120) to operate after the host (110) fails or otherwise stops providing power. A cloud-based management system (180) may assess the storage needs of the enterprise, identify a storage style suited to the enterprise, and direct the SPUs (120) to create virtual volumes (122, 124, 128) having characteristics according to the storage style identified. The cloud based management system (180) may eliminate the need for the enterprise to have expertise in storage management.

  • Patent number: 8958997
Abstract: A system includes an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), one or more power supplies, and a processing device. The processing device to execute instructions which cause the processing device to determine a total output current of the one or more power supplies, enable the UPS, determine an output current of at least the UPS, determine a current sharing percentage for at least the UPS, and compare the current sharing percentage for the UPS with an expected current sharing percentage range.

  • Patent number: 8793538
Abstract: An example system includes a bus, a logic device, a controller, and a non-volatile memory. The bus is configured to propagate data including at least system console output data. The logic device is configured to monitor the data on the bus and to store the system console output data in a buffer. The controller is configured to detect a system error, and, in response to the system error, to acquire at least a portion of the system console output data from the buffer. The non-volatile memory is configured to store the portion of the system console output data acquired by the controller.

  • Publication number: 20130184891
Abstract: An example system includes a load, one or more power supplies to provide power to the load, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to provide power to the load, a logic device communicatively coupled to the one or more power supplies and the UPS, and a computing device communicatively coupled to the one or more power supplies and the UPS. The logic device is to receive an alternating current (AC) input failure signal and a direct current (DC) output failure signal from each of the one or more power supplies. The logic device is further to enable the UPS which was previously in standby or OFF mode in response to receiving at least one of the AC input failure signal and the DC output failure signal. The computing device is to monitor the one or more power supplies and disable the UPS.
