  • Publication number: 20180048936
Abstract: Systems and methods are described to address shortcomings in the conventional media systems via a novel technique to update a list of scheduled recordings for a plurality of instances in a set of media assets. The plurality of media assets in the set of media assets may be related to the same competition. The list of scheduled recordings may be generated based on a user's request to schedule recordings for instances of media assets in which a participant of interest to the user may appear. The updating of the list of scheduled recordings is conditioned based on one or more competition rules determined for the set of related media assets. For example, the systems and methods may determine that the set of media assets are related to a play-off competition where a participant is eliminated from the play-off competition when the participant loses any two games of the competition.

  • Publication number: 20170249319
Abstract: Methods and systems that improve the ability of a media guidance application to aggregate information from one or more sources and one or more mediums. For example, the media guidance application may automatically collect information based on attributes associated with information of a particular type. Specifically, the media guidance application may determine based on comparison with verified training data that one source or medium typically associates information of a particular type, for example, “Actor,” with one or more path attributes, for example, a location in a directory structure. The media guidance application may then search the source or medium for the one or more path attributes. Upon detecting the one or more path attributes, the media guidance application may designate any sub-set of information associated with the one or more path attributes as a particular type of information.

  • Publication number: 20170006252
Abstract: In some aspects, control circuitry receives and stores a user-specified time duration to associate with a skip-forward command. When the user later issues a skip-forward command to advance playback of a media asset to a desired location, the control circuitry retrieves the stored time duration, and determines an expected overshoot value associated with the skip-forward command. The control circuitry then compensates for the expected overshoot by calculating a new location in the media asset based on both the retrieved time duration and expected overshoot value. Upon advancing to the new location, the media asset is played back in a fast-forward mode, e.g., at a speed higher than normal speed.
