  • Patent number: 9460874
Abstract: To control the arc that forms during cut-off in a vacuum bulb, a contact device makes it possible to inflict a rotational motion on the arc, while keeping the arc diffuse. The rotating diffuse arc is obtained with each of two electrodes of the contact device including a solid wafer associated with a base of petal type, the two electrodes mirroring one another.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 17, 2013
Date of Patent: October 4, 2016
    Assignee: SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES SAS

  • Patent number: 8835790
Abstract: A design for a winding is based on a material of low electrical resistance, such as copper, and of a diameter typically greater than 90 mm, intended to generate a magnetic field in an electrical contact for a medium voltage vacuum circuit-breaker. The winding includes a hollow cylinder including helical slots that are empty of material, arranged in parallel around its longitudinal axis, and that open out both to the hollow and to the outside of the cylinder. The angular length of each helical slot is equal to at least 360°. The design makes it possible to increase the level of the axial magnetic field (AMF) obtained by the winding(s) incorporated into an electrical contact of a vacuum circuit-breaker while improving uniformity, symmetry of the field, and production cost.

  • Patent number: 8288674
Abstract: A copper-based winding implementing a copper-based winding of diameter that is typically greater than 90 mm, designed to generate a magnetic field in an electrical contact for a medium-voltage vacuum circuit-breaker. The winding is constituted by a hollow cylinder including helical slots about its longitudinal axis and opening out both into the hollow and to the exterior of the cylinder, winding in which the space between two consecutive slots that form a turn is empty of material and the width of each initial slot is less than 1 mm.

  • Patent number: 8168910
Abstract: A vacuum circuit-breaker wherein at least in one of the contacts at least one stud is used as a spacer, and is disposed between the mechanical connection portion and the circular plate of the contact body in such a manner as to avoid the collapse thereof during a closing operation of the vacuum circuit-breaker, and in the closed position the contacts can withstand very high compression forces, typically greater than 700 kg-force or 2 t-force.

  • Patent number: 8164019
Abstract: A vacuum circuit-breaker wherein one contact body is made with two windings implanted concentric with one another and connected electrically in parallel. The second winding is in the form of an solid part with an annular ring. The circuit-breaker increases the axial magnetic field (AMF) and distributes it uniformly over the contact surface so that arc extinction is improved for high short-circuit currents, typically greater than 63 kA.
