    Abstract: A storage system and method for optimal resource allocation using stream directive are provided. In one embodiment, a storage system is presented comprising a memory and a controller. The controller is configured to track write frequency in the memory of each of a plurality of streams received from a host; assign a weight to each of the plurality of streams based on the tracked write frequency; receive a new stream from the host; and in response to the new stream and the plurality of streams exceeding a threshold number of streams, select one of the plurality of streams to deallocate based on the assigned weights of each of the plurality of streams.
