  • Patent number: 5122288
Abstract: In the cold rolling oils for steel sheets of the present invention, when 0.2-5% by weight of a high molecular nonionic surfactant having a molecular weight of 2000-15000 and an HLB value of 5-9, as well as 0.2-5% by weight of another nonionic surfactant having 12-16 HLB value, are incorporated with a cold rolling oil as emulsifying and dispersing agents, anti-coalescence of oil particles emulsified and dispersed are remarkably improved, and they are less affected by inclusion of iron powder so that excellent stability with time in an emulsified and dispersed state is obtained, as well as that its plateout is significantly improved. Further, the concentration of the resulting cold rolling oils does not decrease, even in case of weak stirring force, so that stable performance with time are obtained. In addition, when 0.

  • Patent number: 4874480
Abstract: A method of producing titanium and titanium alloys having improved lubricity and cold working characteristics includes immersing titanium or titanium alloy as the cathode in an electrolytic conversion coating bath containing acidified zinc phosphate and forming a zinc phosphate coating on the titanium or titanium alloy by maintaining electrolysis conditions in the bath. Further improvements are achieved by pretreatment of the titanium or titanium alloy with a surface adjustment agent prior to immersion in the electrolytic conversion coating bath. The products are further treated with conventional lubricants and exhibit improved working characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4666617
Abstract: The present invention provides a cold rolling oil for steel sheets characterized by incorporating various rolling oils with oil-soluble high-molecular compounds which are obtained by salt-forming:(a) homopolymers of nitrogen-containing monomers or copolymers of two or more of said monomers having the following general formulae (I) and (II): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is H or CH.sub.3, and R.sub.2 as well as R.sub.3 are CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, or C.sub.3 H.sub.7, respectively, or(b) copolymers selected from at least one nitrogen-containing monomers having said general formulae (I) and (II) and at least one of acrylic or methacrylic acid, or the alkyl esters or alkyl amides thereof.with a compound selected from fatty acids of 6-9 carbon atoms, diesters of fatty alcohols of 6-9 carbon atoms and phosphoric acid and mixtures thereof.

  • Patent number: 4517029
Abstract: Iron and steel articles to be subjected to a cold forming operation are treated with a phosphatizing solution to form a zinc phosphate film on the surface, which film contains from about 5 to 80% by weight of the total film of zinc calcium phosphate. Thereafter, a soap type lubricant coating is applied to the zinc phosphate film. Preferably, the zinc phosphate film is formed on the surface by treating it with a phosphatizing solution which comprises from about 0.1 to about 0.35% by weight calcium ion, from about 0.1 to about 1.5% by weight zinc ion, from about 0.5 to about 3.0% by weight PO.sub.4, and from about 3.0 to about 5.0% by weight nitrate ion, which solution has a weight ratio of calcium ions:zinc ions of about 0.1-1.0:1 and a weight ratio of nitrate ions:PO.sub.4 of about 1.0-5.0:1. One or more of nickel, copper or cobalt ions may also be included in the phosphatizing solution in a total amount of from about 0.01 to about 0.2% by weight of the solution.

  • Patent number: 4344308
Abstract: A cleaning method for steel plates is disclosed for removing rolling oil and metal powders by spraying highly pressurized cleaning solution on both surfaces of strip steel plates immediately before and/or after the final step in the cold-rolling process of the strip steel plates. The cleaning may be performed with efficiency by mixing abrasive grains, a rust inhibitor, a surface active agent or the like in the cleaning solution.
