  • Patent number: 11980517
Abstract: An electric toothbrush that detects plaque on the teeth, ensures accurate plaque detection, and performs cleaning of plaque. The electric toothbrush may include a body having a gripping part and a stem with a brush unit detachably coupled to the body. The electric toothbrush may include a light emitting element for emitting light onto the tooth and a light receiving element for receiving light that reflects off of the tooth. A controller may be included to determine an amount of plaque on the tooth based on the amount of reflected light detected. The electric toothbrush may also include a fluid dispensing system that dispenses fluid based on the amount of reflected light detected. In some aspects, the electric toothbrush may operate in multiple oscillation modes, and it may only dispense fluid in some of the modes but not all of the modes.

  • Publication number: 20050074384
Abstract: The present invention relates to the metal oxide doped cerium oxide which has an excellent ultraviolet ray shielding effect and a transparency and whose catalytic activity is reduced. More in detail, relates to the metal oxide doped cerium oxide composed of cerium oxide in which metal ion having larger ion radius than that of Ce4+ and/or lower valence metal ion than Ce4+, such as Ca2+, Y3+, La3+, Nd3+, Eu3+, Tb3+, Sm3+, Mg2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Ce3+ and so on are doped. Said metal oxide doped cerium oxide can be prepared at the temperature lower than 60 ° C. and in the condition of pH higher than 5 by reacting aqueous solution of cerium salt, aqueous solution of metal ion having larger ion radius than that of Ce4+ and/or lower valence metal ion than Ce4+ and alkali, then adding oxidizing agent. Further, said metal oxide doped cerium oxide can be blended to resin composition or cosmetic composition and can display and ultraviolet shielding effect without spoiling transparency at visible ray region.

  • Patent number: 6589496
Abstract: A metal oxide doped cerium oxide has an excellent ultraviolet ray shielding effect and transparency and reduced catalytic activity. The doping mextal oxide is an oxide of a metal ion having larger ion radius than that of Ce4+ and/or lower valence metal ion than Ce4+, such as Ca2+, Y3+, La3+, Nd3+, Eu3+, Tb3+, Sm3+, Mg2+, Sr2+, Ba2+, Ce3+. The metal oxide doped cerium is prepared by reacting aqueous solution of cerium salt, aqueous solution of metal ion having larger ion radius than that of Ce4+ and/or lower valence metal ion than Ce4+ and alkali at a temperature lower than 60° C. and at pH higher than 5. An oxidizing agent may be present together with the alkali or added subsequently. Resin compositions or cosmetic compositions blended with the metal oxide doped cerium oxide have improved ultraviolet shielding effect without spoiling transparency in the visible ray region.

  • Patent number: 6359666
Abstract: An active matrix-liquid crystal display device includes an array substrate 100 on which pixel electrodes 151, signal lines 103 with first and second conductive layers 103a and 103b are formed. The first conductive layers 103a and the pixel electrodes 151 are subject to patterning using a same mask in a same optical exposure process. The first conductive layers 103a are wider in width than the second conductive layers 103b. The pixel electrodes 151 and the signal lines 103 maintain constant relative positions on display areas thereby to hardly cause unevenness of resultant images and to enable the device to display better dignity images.

  • Patent number: 5750090
Abstract: Proposed is a powder of silica-cerium oxide composite particles useful as an ultraviolet shielding agent in a resin composition or as a sunscreening agent in a cosmetic composition. The cerium oxide-based composite particles consist of cerium oxide and 5 to 60% by weight of amorphous silica calculated as SiO.sub.2. The composite particles are prepared by the addition of sodium silicate and an inorganic acid to an aqueous slurry containing precipitates of cerium hydroxide so as to precipitate amorphous silica on the particles of cerium hydroxide followed by drying and calcination of the particles separated from the reaction mixture. Various formulations of cosmetic compositions compounded with the silica-cerium oxide composite particles are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5478550
Abstract: Disclosed is a novel ultraviolet-shielding agent in a powder form consisting of particles of an inorganic material having a specified refractive index and a flaky particle configuration, such as mica, talc, sericite and the like, compositely coated with a water-insoluble cerium compound and amorphous silica each in a specified coating amount. A method for the preparation of such an ultraviolet-shielding agent is disclosed. By virtue of the excellent ultraviolet-shielding effect along with good translucency as well as stability and safety against human skin, it is useful as an ultraviolet-shielding ingredient in cosmetic compositions.
