Patent number: 11830366Abstract: The present invention extends to methods, systems, and computer program products for using geofences to restrict vehicle operation. Aspects of the invention include creating dynamic geofences and limiting vehicle movements (e.g., speed, acceleration, steering, etc.) within and in the vicinity of the dynamic geofences to protect pedestrians from physical harm. In general, radio devices track people in an area by counting the number of devices and calculating the number of people based on average number of devices per person. Using count and location data, a geofence is created when population or population density within an area exceeds a threshold. The geofence can be sent to vehicles to restrict vehicle operation, for example, slowing down or stopping the vehicle, within and around the geofence.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2021Date of Patent: November 28, 2023Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Xiaoyi Ren, Sakthi Narayanan Balasubramanian, Daniel Boccuccia

Publication number: 20230316785Abstract: A system and method for synchronizing two-dimensional (ā2Dā) camera data for object recognition. An object recognition kiosk includes a plurality of 2D cameras and a stage for placement of one or more items. The plurality of 2D cameras capture images of items on the stage from multiple angles. The images received from the 2D cameras are concatenated into a single image. The concatenated image is processed by a trained machine learning model that analyzes and detects items present in each of the camera images that make up the concatenated image and generates 2D bounding boxes around each item. Once items are detected in the concatenated image, sensor fusion is performed based on the detected items and the bounding boxes to synchronize the image data from each of the cameras. The sensor fusion process enables the system to accurately identify the one or more items that are present on the stage.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2022Publication date: October 5, 2023Inventors: Md Ahsan Habib, Prabuddha Biswas, Sakthi Narayanan Balasubramanian, Sarath Kumar Gnanasekar, Shubham Prasad

Patent number: 11170459Abstract: Exemplary embodiments described in this disclosure are generally directed to systems and methods for receiving a ride request from a user of a user device and utilizing an imaging system located in a vehicle of a ride service to capture an image of a seating area of the vehicle. The image is processed by a processor to identify a seat occupancy status and generate a seat availability diagram based on the seat occupancy status. The seat availability diagram is transmitted to the user device, and the user is prompted to either select a seat by using the seat availability diagram or to allow the system to assign any seat in the vehicle. If a seat selection is made, the system responds by reserving the selected seat and may further provide instructions to the user for entering the vehicle through a specific door located closest to the selected seat.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2019Date of Patent: November 9, 2021Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Romil Shah, Sakthi Narayanan Balasubramanian

Publication number: 20200293953Abstract: Exemplary embodiments described in this disclosure generally pertain to ride request evaluation systems and methods that assist a driver of a ride automobile to make a decision on whether to accept or decline a ride request. An exemplary ride request evaluation system includes a computer that evaluates a profitability or a loss associated with accepting the ride request. The evaluation may be carried out based in part on a cost factor that is calculated using parameters such as a distance to a destination indicated in the ride request, a time of day for executing the ride request, a fuel consumption rate of a ride automobile, and/or an operational condition of the ride automobile. In one embodiment, the computer is located in a device that is operated by the driver. An installed application displays the result of the evaluation to assist the driver in deciding whether to accept or decline the ride request.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 14, 2019Publication date: September 17, 2020Applicant: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventors: Sakthi Narayanan Balasubramanian, Shounak Athavale, Romil Shah, Stuti Vishwabhan
