  • Publication number: 20160319187
Abstract: A method of sequestering boron species in a fracturing fluid includes the use of a boron chelating agent. Also disclosed are methods of producing a fracturing fluid using produced or recycled base fluids which may be contaminated with boron, and methods of stimulating of hydrocarbon-bearing formations using such fracturing fluids.

  • Publication number: 20160244659
Abstract: A self-initiating, self-reactive treatment fluid for treating a hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir in a formation includes (a) an ammonium salt capable of being exothermally oxidized to produce heat and nitrogen gas; (b) an oxidizing agent capable of oxidizing the ammonium salt; and (c) a free tertiary amine salt or a compound which reacts to form a free tertiary amine salt in situ. The treatment fluid may be placed in the reservoir during a controlled initiation phase, and a rapid reaction phase may initiate once placed in the desired location.

  • Publication number: 20150337638
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and compositions for stimulating a hydrocarbon formation by generating heat and/or pressure in the formation, in either a fracturing or matrix treatment. This invention utilizes reactive fluids which comprise energetic chemistry that reacts in the formation to create heat and/or pressure. The heat may reduce the viscosity and increase the mobility of heavy oil, and/or the pressure may initiate or extend fractures in the hydrocarbon bearing formation. The reactive fluid may be buffered to slow the reaction and include an encapsulated activator to accelerate the reaction after suitable delay or when the fluid is placed in a zone of interest. Reactive fluids may be sequentially used, wherein each reactive fluid is successively less energetic than the preceding reactive fluid.

  • Publication number: 20140166291
Abstract: A composition for acid stimulation of a subterranean formation, which is an acidizing fluid including a sulfobetaine surfactant, a polymeric associative thickener, and a short chain alcohol. The acidizing fluid comprises sufficient acid so as to be non-viscous when pumped into a wellbore and becomes viscous as acid is consumed by reaction with formation components and pH of the fluid rises.

  • Patent number: 8193127
Abstract: A fluid system for hydraulic fracturing operations which comprises a low residue fluid that facilitates the clean up of the wellbore following the treatment is disclosed. The system includes a surfactant compound that forms micelles above a critical concentration. Under certain conditions the addition of an associative thickener compound yields a network based on hydrophobic interactions. The resulting viscous fluid can transport proppants, be applied neat or as a foamed or energized system, or used in an acidizing treatment. The fluid system may further include a breaker additive.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: June 5, 2012
    Assignee: Sanjel Corporation
    Inventors: Karena Thieme, Sally Lawrence
