  • Patent number: 6323421
Abstract: Raceway base and cover components define top and bottom wireway channels, and provide a third channel therebetween for housing various outlet devices that need not be placed in the wireway channels. The dividers defining these channels are molded as part of the base, and define hinge lines so that shelf defining doors can be opened for ease of wiring the raceway, and closed for isolating the cabling contained therein. Device brackets are snapped into the third channel and these device brackets are designed to receive the outlet devices as a result of a snap-in feature disclosed in a prior art U.S. Pat. No. 5,594,205.

  • Patent number: 5907126
Abstract: An electrical outlet box is provided for assembly with a base to define an enclosed space for receiving an electrical outlet device such as a duplex plug. The plug includes threaded fasteners that are received in uniquely configured hardened steel clips. These clips are preassembled with the box for this purpose. Each clip includes an upper portion of U-shape for receiving the flat stock provided at the top portion of the box. Each clip has depending panels that cooperate to define a V-shape such that the apex of the V defines a slotted opening for receiving the threaded fastener as a result of a push-in motion. The edges of the slotted opening act on the threaded portion of the fastener to prevent its withdrawal except by unthreading.

  • Patent number: 5853236
Abstract: An office coral has a wall that supports a desktop on which various items of office equipment are to be connected with power and data communication cables within the coral structure. A desktop raceway is secured to the wall or desk top and defines both a wireway for the connecting cables and a storage facility for the cabling normally provided on the equipment. The raceway is made up of two generally L-shaped extrusions, one a back plate, the second a cover. The cover has a front panel that defines a slot in cooperation with the back plate's lower edge. A wireway is provided inside the cover adjacent its top panel, and cabling storing or wrapping clips are provided on both the back plates and inside the cover.

  • Patent number: 5837936
Abstract: A mild steel outlet box is stamped from flat sheet stock into a base and a cover that fit together with an interference fit that avoids the need for threaded fasteners. The base has circular knock-outs in the side and end walls, each of which is aligned with a knock-out slot in the bottom wall to allow an electrical metal tube (EMT) to be secured to the box without the usual offset bend. Each such knock-out opening also has a set screw threadably received in an integrally formed land aligned with the knock-out opening to secure the tubing to the base. An electrical device can be pushed into place without threading its fasteners. Hardened steel clips are mounted to the base for slidably receiving such fasteners so they must be unthreaded for removal. Each clip has a V-shape with the apex of the V defining a slotted opening that so receives the threaded fastener.

  • Patent number: 5789705
Abstract: An electrical/mechanical tubing connector attached to a surface mounted electrical device box having a cover releasably secured to a mounting base includes a grooved inner end portion received within a notch in a wall of the cover and opposing recesses in the inner end portion receiving a tongue carried by the mounting base. Barbs on the tongue incise and grip the connector for improved retention and electrical continuity. An end of a length of mechanical/electrical tubing received within the outer end of the connector is secured to the connector by a set screw.

  • Patent number: 5759051
Abstract: An extruded track or base has exposed conductor segments molded into the polymeric base. A socket defining adaptor is releasably secured to the base in any location there along by twisting it through only 45 degrees or less. The adaptor is assembled from a back plate that has cams designed to fit into slots provided in the base, and a cover portion that defines a socket for a thru prong plug. In a cavity defined by the cover and back plate fixed and flexible contacts provide electrical connection between the plug socket and the conductor segments in the track or base. Each plug prong is connected with an opposite conductor and the ground plug stud connects to a ground conductor in the base through a spring located at the axis of rotation for the adaptor during the twist locking of the adaptor onto the track.

  • Patent number: 5688132
Abstract: A raceway has extruded polymeric base and cover portions that snap together, and a socket defining segment of the cover can be located anywhere along the base to provide design flexibility for socket location. The base has elongated wire conductors molded into upstanding legs that define self-hinges for resiliently acting on the plug prongs when the plugs are pushed into slots defined by these leg portions. The plug prongs can be used to rotate a safety disk in the cover prior to pushing the prongs into the slots.

  • Patent number: 5594208
Abstract: A three component electrical outlet box suitable for surface mounting is provided with a base having both locating legs and relatively rigid upstanding posts that are adapted to receive one of a plurality of covers, each cover having inwardly projecting lugs in its flexible side walls to be received in openings defined for this purpose in the posts. An electrical device such as a duplex plug with threaded fasteners supplied thereon is adapted to be assembled with the outlet box as a result of the fasteners being received in unthreaded openings defined in the top wall of the box or cover. The flexibility of the box side walls coupled with a bisector slot provided in each top wall end portion parallel the side walls assures entry of the threaded fastener without threading, and removal of the fastener only by unthreading or by manually spreading the slots side walls.
