  • Patent number: 8673071
Abstract: This method relates to making a joint compound that includes predispersing a dedusting agent in water to make a predispersed dedusting agent. Dry components, including at least one filler, are combined to make a dry mixture. Process water is pumped into a vessel and the predispersed dedusting agent is introduced to the vessel. The dry mixture is then added to the vessel and all components are blended to make a homogeneous product.

  • Patent number: 8642346
Abstract: At least one of these or other problems is reduced using a building material that is uniquely identifiable. A method of making an identifiable gypsum-based building product includes selecting a tagging material occurring naturally in a component of the building material and choosing a carrier substance having a high concentration of the tagging material. By selecting an amount of the carrier substance and adding it to the building material, a building product having a unique product characteristic is created. In a second embodiment of the invention, a second tagging material is combined with the first tagging material to create a unique product. In yet another embodiment of the invention, a supplemental amount of the tagging material is added to the gypsum-based composition in addition to the carrier substance. Some tagging materials are useful in a gypsum-based composition to produce a visual confirmation of the presence of the tagging material.

  • Patent number: 7543708
Abstract: A method of making and filling a plastic bag includes the steps of providing a bag having a plurality of microperforations; filling the bag with a powdered product; securing the bag; removing at least a portion of entrapped air in the bag through the microperforations; and sealing the microperforations. A product includes a bag configured for being formed from a plastic film into which a plurality of microperforations have been created. The bag contents include less air than that present in the bag when the top and the bottom were secured, at least a portion of the air sealed inside the bag having been expelled through the microperforations. A sealant is used for sealing the microperforations.

  • Patent number: 7503430
Abstract: An acoustical panel includes an acoustical layer having an interlocking matrix of calcium sulfate dihydrate, polyethylene glycol and at least one of the group fibers, a lightweight aggregate and mixtures thereof. The acoustical layer has voids in the interlocking matrix that are configured to absorb sound. The polyethylene glycol is selected to agglomerate dust at temperatures generated by friction when the panel is cut. A method of making the acoustical panel includes making a slurry comprising calcium sulfate hemihydrate, polyethylene glycol, water and at least one of the group consisting of a lightweight aggregate, fibers and combinations thereof. Foam is added to the slurry, preferably at the mixer discharge. A continuous strip of acoustical layer material is formed from the slurry. The acoustical panels are formed by cutting the strip into individual panels. Finally, the partially hydrated calcium sulfate hemihydrate is allowed to fully set.

  • Publication number: 20080308968
Abstract: A dust-reducing building panel is made by selecting a dedusting agent that is a solid at room temperature but that melts to form composite particles by at least one of agglomerating and surface adsorption of fines under conditions selected from the group consisting of cutting, abrading or sanding. The dedusting agent is used to make a slurry including water and a hydraulic material selected from the group consisting of calcium sulfate hemihydrate and cement. After the slurry is made, it is deposited onto a facing material and formed into a panel. The building panel is then allowed to set. Some embodiments of the building utilize a dedusting agent that includes natural or synthetic waxes.
