  • Patent number: 6769189
Abstract: The present invention provides a unitary chalking and scuffing device for a billiard cue. The device includes a block of billiard chalk with a face of exposed chalk and with at least one of the other faces carrying a scuffing surface. In one embodiment of the invention, the block has one face of exposed chalk and five faces that carry sandpaper to scuff the tip of the billiard cue so the chalk will adhere.

  • Publication number: 20040111497
Abstract: A resource management method (400c) and a corresponding system implementing an adaptive model are proposed. The method allows an authority to define a desired target state of several kinds of resources, which are directly controlled by different subjects. The authority publishes (460) a series of rules in a shared repository; each rule indicates the target state of a resource for a corresponding logic or physic category of the subjects. Each subject retrieves (444-456;462-468) the rules corresponding to its logic category from the shared repository. The rules are then applied (458;469) by the subject; as a result, the physic category of the subject is updated. The subject now retrieves and applies the rules corresponding to its physic category. In this way, different dependency schemes may be implemented without any explicit definition in the rules.

In this way, the subjects self-adapt to the rules, without requiring any direct interaction with the authority.

  • Publication number: 20040049500
Abstract: A resource management method (500) and a corresponding system implementing an adaptive model are proposed. The method allows an authority to define a desired target state of several kinds of resources, which are directly controlled by different subjects. The authority publishes a series of rules in a shared repository; each rule indicates the target state of a resource for a corresponding category of the subjects. Each subject provides (509-515) the corresponding category to an associated helper (120). The helper retrieves (521-530) the rules corresponding to the category of the subject from the shared repository. The helper then enforces (533-564) application of the rules on the subject. In this way, the subjects adapt to the rules without requiring any direct interaction with the authority, even if they do not have the necessary computational power required to be completely autonomous.

  • Publication number: 20030095632
Abstract: A cathode assembly (18) for an x-ray tube (1) includes a base (60) to which a filament (70) is mounted. A pair of deflectors (82, 84) are carried by the base for deflecting a beam (A) of electrons generated by the filament. Metal tubes (130, 132) are mounted in bores (106) of insulator blocks (104, 105). Metalized ends (150) of the insulator blocks are brazed into bores (122) in the base. A rod (130, 132) attached to the deflector is slid into the tube and the deflector's position and alignment are gauged and accurately set. The rod and tube are crimped to set the deflector position then welded.

  • Patent number: 6103153
Abstract: Compositions and processing conditions are disclosed for the production by rotomolding of polypropylene foams, hither to satisfactorily produced only by injection molding and extrusion molding. Rheological properties of the polypropylene resin, processing conditions and choice of composition of the chemical blowing agent were found to play important roles in obtaining high quality polypropylene foam structures. High strength fine-cell polypropylene foams could in particular be formed by first melt compounding a suitable chemical blowing agent with the resin under conditions which allow for homogeneous mixing without appreciable decomposition of the blowing agent.

  • Patent number: 5928584
Abstract: Novel molding compositions consisting essentially of a mixture of a skin-forming component and a foam core-foaming component physically dry-blended together. The skin-forming component comprises two distinct phases blended together, a high zero-shear viscosity material and a low zero-shear viscosity material. The foam core-forming component preferably comprises a foamable polymeric material including a suitable blowing agent. In a preferred embodiment, the three materials are selected from suitable homopolymers and copolymers of ethylene.

  • Patent number: 5438322
Abstract: A frequency generating circuit and a cap-freeing mechanism in a bolt are responsive to a longitudinal movement of a piston in response to overheating of an associated bearing. The cap-freeing mechanism transfers a force from the piston to a cap, thereby freeing the cap from a head portion of the bolt and allowing an antenna to extend to the outside of the bolt. The frequency generating circuit is activated by a connection made between a switch and a battery of the circuit by the piston. Upon becoming activated, the frequency generating circuit sends a predetermined frequency or frequency pattern through the antenna.

  • Patent number: 5016344
Abstract: A method for constructing a multiple-pole switch of the dual in-line package type initially manufacturing a base unit with integral terminals and a cavity for each pole. A movable contact having first and second end portions and intermediate portions are deposited in each cavity. A double-injection molding process produces a rotatable actuator and a cover that is assembled onto the base unit to capture the movable contacts in their corresponding cavities.

  • Patent number: 4975548
Abstract: An electrical switching device of the dual in-line package type. A multiple-pole switching device contains a plurality of independent switching elements aligned on individual pole planes. Each switching element includes first and second terminals and stationary contacts centered on the pole plane. A movable contact engages a first stationary contact and is held in position by a boss on a cover actuator. An actuator, captured in the cover-actuator, includes a cam that engages an intermediate portion of the movable contact to move the second end of the movable contact into engagement with the second stationary contact to complete an electrical circuit. The cam and movable contact are configured to produce a detent action as the actuator moves between open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 4865791
Abstract: A method of forming a selectively expansible pocket or bulge in a thin plastic sheet to facilitate the use of the sheet as a surface protector or shield includes the step of applying oppositely directed forces to the sheet in a plurality of intermeshed closely spaced lines about a predetermined area in which it is desired to form a pocket. The forces are applied until stretching, thinning, and permanent deformation of the sheet takes place along the lines to produce a plurality of permanent corrugations to permit lateral deflection of the predetermined area.

  • Patent number: 4207620
Abstract: An underwater mapping system in which a swath of terrain, much wider than a sonar beam width, is observed by means of a sonar beam scanned in the cross track plane of a ship. Filtering and correlation techniques are employed to compensate for distortions in echoes emanating from the ocean bottom by a selection of filter coefficients in accordance with the orientation of the sonar beams and by providing a simulated echo envelope for correlation.

  • Patent number: 4158374
Abstract: A measuring dispenser for flowable material comprises a hopper and a rotatable barrel member for transferring measured quantities of the material from the hopper to a receptacle. The barrel member has a plurality of angularly spaced recesses of predetermined volumetric capacities. By rotation of the barrel member in one direction through a selected angle, selected recesses are filled from the hopper in sequence, the material being retained in the filled recesses during such rotation. By subsequent rotation of the barrel member in the opposite direction through the same selected angle and an additional predetermined angle, the filled recesses are sequentially emptied into the receptacle.
