  • Publication number: 20080100535
Abstract: A display apparatus includes a plasma display panel (PDP) and a filter. The PDP has a display surface, and the filter has a panel side facing the display surface of the PDP and an opposing viewer side facing away from the display surface. The filter includes a base unit. The filter also includes pattern units that absorb external light from the viewer side. The pattern units have boundaries that define widths of pattern tops and widths of pattern bottoms. A distance between a pattern top and a pattern bottom defines a pattern height. A distance between adjacent boundaries, of a pair of adjacent pattern units, at adjacent pattern bottoms can be less than a distance between the adjacent boundaries at adjacent pattern tops, less than the pattern height, and greater than a width of at least one of the pattern bottoms.

  • Publication number: 20080088535
Abstract: A display apparatus includes a plasma display panel (PDP) having an upper substrate at which black matrices are disposed. The apparatus includes an external light shield having a panel side facing a display surface of the PDP and an opposing viewer side facing away from the display surface. The light shield includes a base unit and includes pattern units that absorb external light from the viewer side. The pattern units have boundaries defined by intersections of the pattern units and the base unit. The boundaries define widths of pattern tops disposed toward the panel side or the viewer side and define widths of pattern bottoms disposed toward the other of the panel side and the viewer side. A distance between a pair of adjacent black matrices is 4 to 12 times greater than a distance between adjacent boundaries, of a pair of adjacent pattern units, at adjacent pattern bottoms.

  • Publication number: 20080023230
Abstract: A polycrystalline superabrasive composite tool can be produced using high pressure high temperature processes allowing for increased thermal resistance, wear resistance and toughness of abrasive tools, and additionally allowing for increased effective thickness of abrasive tools. A polycrystalline superabrasive compact can include a support substrate and a superabrasive polycrystalline layer having a diffusion bridge embedded therein that includes a carbide former. Additionally, a working layer can be attached adjacent to the superabrasive polycrystalline layer and opposite the support substrate to form a drill bit sandwich segment. The diffusion bridge matrix of the present invention allows for a new welding phase at each interface between the superabrasive polycrystalline layer and support substrate and between the polycrystalline layer and the metal working layer, thus eliminating delamination failure at the interfaces.

  • Patent number: 6616725
Abstract: A self-grown monopoly compact grit and high pressure, high temperature process for preparing the same. The high pressure, high temperature sintered/synthesized monopoly compact grit is used in various industrial tools such as saw blades, grinding wheels, cutting tools and drill bits. Further, the monopoly compact grit of the present invention is produced from a seed of a mono-crystal of diamond or cubic boron nitride surrounded by either a self-grown crystal layer or an integrally bonded poly-crystalline sintered compact layer. The self-grown crystal layer is a new grown crystal structure where the seed crystal grows into a new phase through a normal diamond or cubic boron nitride synthesis process in the presence of a catalyst metal solvent.

  • Patent number: 6136599
Abstract: Human/human hybrid cells were made via fusion of human embryonic kidney cells (293S) and modified Burkitt's lymphoma cells (2B8). The fusion cells are useful as host cells for the recombinant expression of mammalian genes. The advantages of using these hybrid clones of human kidney- and B-cells, called HKBs, for mammalian gene expression, include (i) the cells are negative for immunoglobulin expression, (ii) the cells grow easily in plasma protein-free medium (with or without the addition of recombinant insulin) as suspension cultures in a shake flask or in a fermenter (iii) the cells are very susceptible for transfection of DNA, and (iv) the cells secrete high levels of heterologous recombinant proteins, such as recombinant monoclonal antibodies, soluble ICAM-1, rIL-4, and rFVIII.

  • Patent number: 6068913
Abstract: A new PCD/PCBN tool and method for making the same involve the use of an intermediate layer of polycrystalline material between a substrate and an outer working layer. The intermediate layer is formulated to limit or prevent the amount of cobalt or other binders which may infiltrate the outer working layer and accelerate deterioration under high throughput conditions. In accordance with one aspect of the invention, the substrate is corrugate or rounded projections to both reduce stress and to decrease infiltration of cobalt through the polycrystalline structures. In accordance with another aspect of the invention, the bonding medium and/or binder agents in the intermediate layer may be selected to decrease mobility of cobalt and the like.
