Patent number: 8794198Abstract: A free-piston engine has an engine cylinder and a single piston member. The single piston member has a double-ended piston that moves within the cylinder, and the piston member partitions the cylinder into two separate chambers, each of which are supplied with a compressible working fluid from one or more intake means. The piston moves over and past the intake means during each stroke such that the fluid is replenished within one chamber while the piston compresses the fluid held in the other chamber.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2010Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Libertine FPE Ltd.Inventor: Sam Cockerill

Patent number: 6435744Abstract: In order to improve and facilitate the peeling operation of a tape printing device of the type employing a tape cassette, a tape cassette (100) with an angled peel slot (110) is disclosed. The corresponding peel plunger (76) of the tape printing device is moving into the peel slot (110) during a peeling operation and the longitudinal axis of the peel slot (110) and the longitudinal axis of the tape (80) enclose a non-perpendicular angle, as well. Thus, only an edge (84) of the tape (80) is peeled, what reduces the forces required for peeling.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2000Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Esselte N.V.Inventors: Anthony Roy Dunn, Sam Cockerill, Costa Panayi

Patent number: 6152623Abstract: The invention refers to a tape printing apparatus (2) used with tape cassettes (20, 220, 243, 260, 443). In order to make insertion and removal easier, the tape cassette is provided with a surface controlling the position of a printhead (22, 222, 322, 422) and/or a platen. When the cassette is inserted, printhead and platen are automatically separated such that the tape (24) can be introduced between them, and afterwards moved in the operative position. Further, an over center mechanism is proposed for moving printhead and platen. The tape cassette (443) can provide a 90.degree. bend in the tape (24) upstream the printing position, and the motor (42) can be located besides the zone for accommodating the image receiving tape (24). The cassette can be made attachable to other cassettes, and the means for attaching can guide and hold the cassette in the tape printer.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1998Date of Patent: November 28, 2000Assignee: Esselte N.V.Inventors: Mathew Richard Palmer, Sam Cockerill, Costa Panayi, Robert Charles Lewis Day, Charles Robert Sims, Andrew Buchanan Halket
