  • Publication number: 20070289693
Abstract: The present invention is an improved polymeric resin composition comprising units derived from ethylene, from about 20 wt % to about 30 wt % units derived from an ?,?-unsaturated carboxylic acid having from 3 to 8 carbons, and optionally an effective amount of at least one additive selected from the group consisting of hindered amine light stabilizers, UV light absorbers, and thermal stabilizers. Resins of the present invention are particularly suitable for preparing transparent laminates useful as glazing elements that provide a greater measure of safety than non-laminated glazing elements.

  • Patent number: 7045566
Abstract: Moisture and gas permeable ionomeric films are described. The films described herein are obtained from blends of ionomers with an organic acid salt in the amount of at least about 5 wt %, and have MVTR greater than films obtained from conventional ionomers. Particularly preferred are the potassium salts of stearic, oleic, isostearic, and isooleic acids. Films comprising a liquid-absorbent ionomer film layer and an impermeable layer are provided. The films are suitable for preparation of tubular casings and shrinkbags, in particular, casings for smoked foodstuffs.

  • Publication number: 20020161388
Abstract: Balloon catheter covers are elastic fabric structures of interconnected yarns, the structure having a high degree of stretch and recovery in the circumferential direction with little change in dimension in the longitudinal direction during multiple pressurization cycles over full range of inflation and deflation of the balloon catheter. The covers have longitudinal yarns positioned at about zero degrees to the balloon axis and reversibly-stretchable, circumferential yarns positioned at a high angle Ø to the axis.

  • Patent number: 5296286
Abstract: A process for preparing subdenier fibers and structures thereof from isotropic polymer solutions is disclosed. The process comprises extruding a stream of the polymer solution into a chamber, introducing a pressurized gas into the chamber, directing the gas in the flow direction of and in surrounding contact with the stream within the chamber, passing both the gas and the stream into a zone of lower pressure at a velocity sufficient to attenuate the stream and fragment it into fibers, and contacting the fragmented stream in the zone with a coagulating fluid.

  • Patent number: 5147586
Abstract: An improved process is provided for flash-spinning plexifilamentary film-fibril strands of a fiber-forming polyolefin from a C.sub.4-7 hydrocarbon/co-solvent spin liquid that, if released to the atmosphere, presents a greatly reduced ozone depletion hazard, as compared to the halocarbon spin liquids currently-used commercially for making such strands. The resulting plexifilamentary film-fibril strands have increased tenacity and improved fibrillation compared to strands flash-spun from 100% hydrocarbon spin liquids.

  • Patent number: 5093060
Abstract: A continuous process for the manufacture of a fibrous material from a polyolefin. The process comprises feeding a solution of polyolefin dissolved in an organic solvent at elevated temperature and pressure to a spinneret. The exit of the spinneret is the inlet to an elongated vertical tube and is located in an upper section of an elongated vertical vessel. The tube extends for a major portion of the length of the vessel. Solvent is removed from an upper section of the vessel and water is sprayed both down the tube and into the vessel. The strands thus formed are shredded in a self-cleaning self-feeding shredder located at the bottom of the vessel.
