  • Patent number: 9491441
Abstract: A method for extending the dynamic range of a depth map by deriving depth information from a synthesized image of a plurality of images captured at different light intensity levels and/or captured over different sensor integration times is described. In some embodiments, an initial image of an environment is captured while the environment is illuminated with light of a first light intensity. One or more subsequent images are subsequently captured while the environment is illuminated with light of one or more different light intensities. The one or more different light intensities may be dynamically configured based on a degree of pixel saturation associated with previously captured images. The initial image and the one or more subsequent images may be synthesized into a synthesized image by applying high dynamic range imaging techniques.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 30, 2011
Date of Patent: November 8, 2016
    Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLC

  • Patent number: 7832820
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for regulating energy delivered to a load includes: determining a quantity of energy that has been delivered to the load during a time interval; comparing the quantity of energy delivered with a threshold value; and delaying delivery of additional energy to the load until the time interval has expired if a magnitude of a difference between the threshold value and a sum of the quantity of energy and the additional energy exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 7034942
Abstract: A method, includes illuminating a first portion of a colored region with first light from a gas discharge tube and generating a first output using a diffuse reflection of the first light from the first portion. The method further includes illuminating a second portion of the colored region with second light from a first solid state lamp and generating a second output using a diffuse reflection of the second light from the second portion. Additionally, the method includes illuminating a third portion of the colored region with third light from a second solid state lamp and generating a third output using a diffuse reflection of the third light from the third portion.

  • Patent number: 6447089
Abstract: Printing apparatus that employs a media detect switch and a linear optical detector to accurately detect the leading edge or trailing edge of a print medium to modify print data so that printing does not extend off the print medium beyond the leading edge or trailing edge. Also disclosed are techniques for using the media detect switch to control a media advance operation to position the leading edge or trailing edge of the print medium in the field of view of the linear array optical detector.
