  • Publication number: 20230159222
Abstract: Collapsible containers and a method of their manufacture are disclosed herein. The collapsible containers have one or more collapsible wall sections and a stiff upper and lower tier. The wall sections have living hinges and three or more tiers between the hinges. A thermoplastic elastomer layer may join separately made portions of the container together. The containers may be made by molding and overmolding. The containers include inter alia bulk liquid containers, jugs, tubs, baskets, bottles, and food containers. The method of manufacturing includes placing a container component and a matching container body comprising a stiff first tier, a stiff second tier, and a collapsible wall section in a mold; assembling the container body with the container component to close one end of the container body; and overmolding a thermoplastic layer around the container body and the container component.

  • Patent number: 11279519
Abstract: Collapsible indoor and outdoor containers having a collapsible wall section with shape-retaining characteristics are disclosed. In particular, collapsible coolers, fish bins, and wheeled vertical bins are provided. The collapsible wall section may include foldable tiers of a flexible material, each tier having at least one stable, relatively expanded position and at least one stable, relatively collapsed position; and an intervening, non-folding tier composed of a different, relatively stiff or rigid material. The coolers, fish bins, and wheeled vertical bins are each advantageously provided with a collapsible insert container that nests within and collapses together with a shell of the respective container, the respective wall folds of the shell and insert meshing together to result in a combined collapsed vertical dimension as small or nearly as small as that of the collapsed shell alone.

  • Patent number: 11026527
Abstract: A collapsible container, particularly a cup or mug having a flexible body having a top tier, middle tier and a bottom tier is disclosed. The bottom tier has a base. The container has a first living hinge between the top and middle tiers and a second living hinge between the middle and bottom tiers. A rigid, preferably metal, plate is at least partially embedded in the bottom tier that makes the otherwise flexible base rigid. The container can have a rigid metal cladding around the top tier and a handle made of flexible material. The collapsible container may be made by injection molding.

  • Patent number: 10988896
Abstract: Collapsible household containers having a foldable wall section with shape-retaining characteristics are disclosed. In particular, collapsible laundry baskets, buckets, colanders, dish drainers, and cups are provided. The folding region may include foldable tiers of a flexible material, each tier having at least one stable, relatively expanded position and at least one stable, relatively collapsed position; and an intervening, non-folding tier composed of a different, relatively rigid material.

  • Patent number: 10464711
Abstract: Collapsible heatable liquid containers having three non-inverting tiers and two inverting tiers interposed between the non-inverting tiers. The non-inverting tiers are typically formed of a stiff (i.e., stiff or rigid) material that is different from the material of the inverting tiers, which is typically a resilient polymer such as a thermoplastic elastomer or silicone. The bottom non-inverting tier is typically formed of a material suitable for inductive, contact, and flame heating, such as stainless steel. The container may be a liquid vessel suitable for drinking, beverage heating and serving, or cooking, such as a drinking bottle or kettle. A bottle may include an attached cap that engages the top tier to close the bottle, and a kettle may include a pour spout connected to the middle or top tier.
