  • Patent number: 9747124
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention and provide a method for distributed virtual machine (VM) image management in a cloud computing management includes receiving in a hypervisor executing in memory of a host computer, a request for VM image data from a VM and determining whether or not the requested VM image data is present in a local cache of either the hypervisor of the host computer or in a cache of a hypervisor of a peer host. The method additionally includes retrieving the requested VM image data from a seed image in a remote data store in the cloud computing environment only when it is determined that the VM image data neither is present in the local cache of the hypervisor of the host computer nor is present in the cache of the hypervisor of the peer host.

  • Patent number: 9256481
Abstract: A published event from a first content element executing within a framework may be detected. In response, a registry may be searched for one or more registered events that match the published event, and if a matching registered event is found, a second content element that registered said matching registered event may be instantiated to start executing within the framework. The second content element is dynamically aggregated into the framework based on the published event without the first content element needing to have previous knowledge of the second content element, and without the second content element needing to have previous knowledge of the first content element. The framework also does not need to be designed initially to deploy the second content element. Which one or more content elements to aggregate into the framework may be determined at run time rather than at design time.

  • Patent number: 9251281
Abstract: A system and method for web browsing using placemarks and contextual relationships in a data processing system. A navigation placemark is provided within a web browser. The web browser comprises a first web page and a second web page. A piece of information is located at a specific location within each of the first and second web pages. A first individual placemark is added to the navigation placemark, and a second individual placemark is added to the navigation placemark. Web page content is extracted from the first web page and can be used to control information shown within the second web page. An interaction between the first individual placemark and the second individual placemark is specified. A trigger criteria for the first individual placemark and the second individual placemark is also specified. A first profile and a second profile are created. The first profile is run as a background process that can be driven by the second profile, and a user may switch between the first and second profiles.

  • Patent number: 8782630
Abstract: An upgrade of an application product is installed to a first location in a shared environment that is different than a second location in the shared environment. An indication of the newer version of the application product and an indication of the first location are recorded in a registry that comprises indications of a plurality of application products and locations corresponding thereto. Metadata and binding information are obtained from an instance of the previous version of the application product while the instance of the previous version of the application product continues running. The metadata and the binding information are instantiated for an instance of the newer version of the application product in execution space thereof. Work is diverted work from the instance of the previous version of the application product to the instance of the newer version of the application product while both instances continue running in the shared environment.

  • Patent number: 8327290
Abstract: A task-like user interface is provided for Web-based applications. Preferred embodiments enable users to initiate multiple instances of tasks within a single Web application, where independent state information is retained for each instance. Each user-initiated task also has a prescribed life cycle with a definite start and end. Resources allocated to perform various activities can therefore be released when the activity ends. Optionally, contextual information can be passed to a task upon invocation. Support for persisting a currently-viewable work unit as a user-selectable favorite may optionally be provided.

  • Patent number: 8316309
Abstract: A computer-implementable method enables a user to customize navigation of User Interface (UI) resources that are displayed on a computer User Interface (UI). A computer receives, from a user, an input of user-created metadata. This user-created metadata is associated with one or more UI resources that are depicted on a UI. In response to a user inputting specific metadata, the computer retrieves one or more UI resources that are associated with the specific metadata that has been input by the user. These retrieved one or more UI resources are displayed on the UI.

  • Patent number: 8271885
Abstract: A customized user interface is configured to include one or more user interface gadgets provided by one or more user interface gadget providers. Multiple possible user interface gadgets are identified for inclusion in the user interface by comparing a set of required attributes for the user interface to stored attribute data for a plurality of registered user interface gadgets. One or more of the possible user interface gadgets is selected for inclusion in the user interface using stored evaluation data for the possible user interface gadgets. Data related to the selected user interface gadget(s) is provided for use in generating the customized user interface on a computer system.
