The rotary compressor may include a driving shaft that is rotatable in both a clockwise and counterclockwise direction, and having an eccentric portion at an end thereof. The compressor may also include cylinder having a predetermined inner volume, and a roller rotatably installed on an outer circumferential portion of the eccentric portion so as to contact an inner circumference of the cylinder and form a fluid chamber therebetween. A vane is elastically installed in the cylinder and contacts the roller, and upper and lower bearings are respectively installed at upper and lower portions of the cylinder so as to rotatably support the driving shaft and hermetically seal the inner volume of the cylinder. Suction and discharge ports communicate with the fluid chamber based on a rotational direction of the driving shaft so as to provide a different compression capacity depending on the rotational direction of the driving shaft.
