Abstract: Systems and methods for rendering automatic annotation for electronic books with external information provided by an information database. Key terms in an ebook are automatically selected for annotation based on a record of search events in which users submitted query terms concerning the ebook in search for relevant external information on Internet. The query terms may be submitted by users through ebook graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and/or web browsers rendered on terminal devices. Search events occurred on individual terminal devices can be recorded and then supplied to a server device which can aggregate such information based on some population of readers of the ebook. The most frequently searched query terms may be automatically selected for annotating the ebook.
