Abstract: A computer-implemented method of generating a piece of music is disclosed. The method comprises: determining an initial sequence of notes for the piece of music; determining at least one probability distribution for selecting at least one subsequent note from a set of candidate notes; generating a biasing output based on data of the initial sequence of notes; and extending the initial sequence of notes with at least one subsequent note selected from the set of candidate notes according to the probability distribution and the biasing output, wherein the biasing output biases the selection so as to affect the likelihood of the selection resulting in a repeat of a musical element formed by the initial sequence of notes.

Abstract: A music composition system for composing music segments comprises: a computer interface comprising at least one external input for receiving from an external device a request for a musical composition; a controller configured to determine based on a request received at the external input a plurality of musical parts for the musical composition; and a composition engine configured to generate, for each of the determined musical parts, at least one musical segment in digital musical notation format, the musical segments configured to cooperate musically when performed simultaneously. The computer interface comprises at least one external output configured to output a response to the request, the request comprising or indicating each of the musical segments in digital musical notation format for rendering into audio data at the external device.

Abstract: Meta-data or tags are generated by analysing audio, music or video data; a database stores audio, music or video data; and a processing unit analyses the data to generate the meta-data in conformance with an ontology. Ontology-based approaches are new in this context. A logical processing unit infers knowledge from the meta-data.
