  • Patent number: 8582790
Abstract: A hearing aid includes a microphone to convert audible sounds into sound-related electrical signals and a memory configured to store a plurality of hearing aid profiles. Each hearing aid profile has an associated audio label. The hearing aid further includes a processor coupled to the microphone and to the memory and configured to select one of the plurality of hearing aid profiles. The processor applies the one of the plurality of hearing aid profiles to the sound-related electrical signals to produce a shaped output signal to compensate for a hearing impairment of a user. The processor is configured to insert the associated audio label into the shaped output signal. The hearing aid also includes a speaker coupled to the processor and configured to convert the shaped output signal into an audible sound.

  • Publication number: 20130052636
Abstract: Some aspects of the invention provide for a method for detecting metabolic activity in a sample by obtaining a sample, illuminating the sample at a plurality of time points, measuring transmitted light from a marker of metabolic activity in the sample at the plurality of time points, and detecting the presence or absence of metabolic activity from a change in the transmitted light at the plurality of time points. Other aspects of the invention provide for a method for detecting metabolic activity in a sample by providing a sample have a detectable marker therein that is reflective of metabolic activity in the sample, producing an amplified signal from the marker, measuring the amplified signal at a plurality of time points, and detecting metabolic activity from a change in the signal. Additional aspects provide for a system for detecting metabolic activity in a sample.

  • Patent number: 5666492
Abstract: A computer based pharmaceutical care cognitive services management system and method allows the transformation of a pharmacist from a vendor to a health care provider. The pharmaceutical care cognitive services management system and method captures all of the value added by a pharmacist to a patient encounter by permitting multiple RARs (Reasons, Actions, Results) to be associated with a single SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan). This system enables the pharmacist to financially recover for each analytical or counseling session and/or service provided to the user associated with a single transaction. The pharmaceutical care cognitive services management system and method also enables the efficient processing of interruptions to cognitive and counseling sessions.
