  • Patent number: 9538579
Abstract: In a user equipment (UE) supporting multiple radio access technologies (RATs) and operating in an multiple-SIM multiple-active (MSMA) scenario, at least a portion of the wireless local area network (WLAN) transceiver may be used opportunistically to support the operation of the wireless wide area network (WWAN) transceiver to support the multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs). For example, when a first SIM is in an active mode and using the WWAN transceiver for transmit and/or receive operations, at least a portion of the WLAN transceiver may be used in addition to the WWAN transceiver to support the WWAN operation of a second (or third, etc.) SIM. The WLAN transceiver may be used for transmit, receive, or both for the second SIM, while the first SIM continues to use the resources of the WWAN transceiver.

  • Publication number: 20160365879
Abstract: A method for wireless communication is described. A primary radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) supporting a plurality of radio frequency (RF) receive paths is provided. Standalone RF resources of a core-resource RFIC to integrate with the plurality of RF receive paths of the primary RFIC to enable an additional functionality of the primary RFIC are then added. A minimum set of RF resources necessary to add support for an additional RF receive path may be determined, and RF resources, including one or more of an antenna, an RF front end, and a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and switches of the primary RFIC, may be shared. A digital baseband integrated circuit (IC), i.e. a modem, may be operated to support both a first of the plurality of RF receive paths from the primary RFIC and a second of the plurality of RF receive paths from the core-resource RFIC.

  • Publication number: 20160345229
Abstract: A receive (Rx) chain of a wireless local area network (WLAN) transceiver may be used to assist a wireless wide area network (WWAN) transceiver in a user equipment (UE). A UE may use the WLAN Rx chain to autonomously scan and measure while the UE is connected to a first or home wireless network using its WWAN transceiver. When the UE is in a connected state, the WLAN Rx chain may be used to scan and take measurements for one or more second networks operated by a second wireless operator belonging to the same mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) as the first wireless network. In another example, the WLAN Rx chain may perform a set of inter-frequency reference signal time difference (RSTD) measurements based on observed time offsets between positioning reference signals (PRSs) from neighboring cells.

  • Patent number: 9374727
Abstract: An apparatus for wireless communication obtains a first metric of a cell based on signals received by a WWAN radio tuned to a common frequency, and a second metric of the cell based on signals received by a WLAN radio tuned to the common frequency. The apparatus determines a calibration factor based on the first and second metrics, and performs cell search and cell measurement based on the calibration factor and signals received by the WLAN radio tuned to a target frequency. The common frequency may be a serving frequency of the WWAN, in which case the first and second metrics are one of frequency or power metrics and the calibration factor is one of a frequency offset and a power offset. The common frequency may also be a target frequency for inter-frequency measurements of the WWAN, in which case the calibration factor is based primarily on power measurements.

  • Patent number: 9332509
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are provided that may address problems pertaining to effective transmit power control of a communications device operating in a wireless communications system. Some embodiments utilize mechanisms or techniques with dynamically adaptive steps sizes for transmit power control based on one or more trends. Some of these techniques may identify a trend in the transmit power control (TPC) commands and may adapt a TPC step size as a result. Other techniques may be utilized in which transmit power control is based on multiple interference estimates in a frame slot. Having multiple interference estimates at sub-slot intervals may provide additional transmit power control by allowing more transmit power adjustments, or more appropriate adjustments, for each slot. Metric calculations may be performed on one or more techniques to determine appropriate TPC operations.
