  • Publication number: 20100202493
Abstract: Low-power transmitter and/or receiver devices are provided by sacrificing time and/or frequency diversity in exchange for lower power consumption. When channel conditions indicate that time and/or frequency spreading are unnecessary for transmissions, a transmitter may enter into a power-conservation mode in which transmissions are performed using a time gating scheme or a time repetition scheme. In the time gating scheme, symbols are transmitting just once, rather than a plurality of times, but with increased transmission power. In the time repetition scheme, copies of the same symbol are transmitted a plurality of times on the same frequency on different symbol transmission periods, instead of being retransmitted on different frequencies on different symbol transmission periods. Consequently, the symbol can be generated once and stored for subsequent retransmission, thereby allowing some of the transmitter/receiver chain components can be operated at a lower duty cycle or processing speed to conserve power.

  • Publication number: 20100203905
Abstract: A power conservation method and system are provided for conserving power in client terminals by using a partitioned proxy server. The client terminal, having low-power and high-power communication interfaces, may power down its high-power communication interface to conserve power. Prior to shutting off its high-power communication interface, the client terminal may assign a partitioned proxy server to act as its proxy. The partitioned proxy server may include remote and local paging proxies which communicate with each other over an IP network. The remote paging proxy receives paging requests from an access point or the communication network and forwards it to the local paging proxy. The local paging proxy then forwards the paging message to the client terminal via a low-power communication interface. Upon receipt of the paging message via its low-power communication interface, the client terminal may power up its high-power communication interface and directly respond to the paging message.

  • Publication number: 20100153553
Abstract: A system and method that enables two or more hosts so that they can share a resource, such as a display. Client allocates a portion of the resource to each of the eligible hosts. This allocated size is negotiable among host(s) and the client. Client may request the hosts to scale down/up resource utilization based on the allocated portion of the resource being shared. This helps keep the client implementation simple. In this case, client maintains the allocation vector for each host. This allocation vector is used to keep track of the resource sharing. While this is a preferred approach, it is possible that “intelligent” client may actually modify resource utilization for a given host based on the negotiated allocation.

  • Patent number: 7254402
Abstract: A system and method for assisting an integrated GPS/wireless terminal unit in acquiring one or more GPS satellite signals from the GPS satellite constellation. The invention includes a method for narrowing the PN-code phase search. • Publication number: 20060244657
Abstract: The disclosed system manages information that is received from one or more users over a communication network. A user provides information to the network using a network node, such as a data acquisition device that is a wireless, mobile communication device. The system monitors the user's location within a communication environment and sends an alarm to a user when the user is near a location that satisfies user-specified criteria. The system stores the user-provided information at a central database that is linked to the communication network. When an authorized user revises the information, any other authorized user can access the revised information by accessing the central database through a node of the communication network.

  • Publication number: 20060215618
Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating and use of a position location reference signal that allows a receiver to receive position location signals from relatively weak signal generators when in the presence of a strong signal source. The position location reference signals from multiple sources can be synchronized to occur within a scheduled time slot of a time division multiplexed communication system. During the scheduled time slot, each signal source can configure a transmission that includes a media access control address that corresponds to a value reserved for position location signals. Each signal source also configures the transmission to include a position location reference signal that corresponds to the signal source. The position location signals from each of the signal sources is positioned to occur at a time within the data portion of the scheduled time slot that no neighboring signal source transmits its corresponding position location signal.
