  • Publication number: 20040226132
Abstract: A self-locking threaded bushing is provided for mounting a steel fan shaft in an aluminum support. The bushing is threaded so that it may be threaded into the aluminum structure. The bushing is provided with a bore corresponding to the shaft diameter such that a normal press fit is established when the shaft is initially pressed into the bushing. A reduced diameter portion of the bushing bore results in an interference fit between the shaft and the bore. Relief cuts in the bushing allow the bushing to expand in the vicinity of the reduced diameter portion as a result of interference from the shaft. The expansion of the bushing results in an interference fit between the threads of the bushing and those of the aluminum structure such that the bushing and shaft are essentially locked in place until such time as the shaft is extracted from the bushing.

  • Patent number: 6453868
Abstract: A engine having a timing gear cover with integrally formed coolant inlet and discharge fittings for connection to a radiator. The cover forms a water pump inlet chamber and a water pump outlet chamber defined by the walls of the cover and the front face of the engine block. The lower pressure water pump inlet chamber separates the higher pressure water pump outlet chamber from a timing gear chamber to prevent coolant leakage from the water pump inlet chamber into the timing gear chamber where the lubricating oil will be contaminated. The water pump housing also includes a drain fitting for draining coolant from the engine.

  • Patent number: 6347745
Abstract: A thermostat assembly with a valve mounted to a carrier for installation in an engine thermostat housing. The carrier includes a body portion to which the valve is mounted. A pair of posts extend upward from the body portion and have snap tabs that seat in an annular groove in the thermostat housing. A handle extends from the side posts and includes legs that first project inward from the side posts and then upward to upper distal ends where a cross member connects the legs. The carrier is made of plastic such that when the legs are squeezed together, the side posts deflect to withdraw the snap tabs from the groove to withdraw the snap tabs and enable the carrier to be removed from the housing. The housing also includes an inwardly tapered portion that engages the body portion of the carrier to form a seal therebetween. Fluid pressure when the valve is closed deflects the carrier outward into firm engagement with the condiut.
