  • Patent number: 6847391
Abstract: A program delivery system using a compression apparatus capable of compressing incoming video and non-video signals, such as audio and data signals. The system includes a frequency modulator which modulates the incoming audio, data or other non-video signals, unto selected video frequencies. A Fourier transformer generates a set of sinusoidal transform components corresponding to the incoming video, audio, data or other non-video signals, and a selector chooses the most desirable Fourier sinusoidal transforms. A multiplexer multiplexes only the selected Fourier transform components for further processing.

  • Publication number: 20030122954
Abstract: An optical apparatus for capturing digital images, and for use, for example, as a video camera includes a lens system for providing at least one derivative of an impinging light signal with respect to at least one predetermined frequency. The lens system samples the light signal as a function of the amplitude of the light signal, and rotates at an angular speed proportional to a predetermined frequency for providing a derivative of the light signal with respect to a predetermined frequency. The lens system includes three lens systems for providing three derivatives of the impinging light signal with respect to three predetermined frequencies corresponding to the three lens systems. Each of the three lens systems samples the light signal as a function of the amplitudes of the light signal relative to its predetermined frequency. In one embodiment, these predetermined frequencies correspond to the red, green and blue colors or color spectra.

  • Patent number: 6049694
Abstract: A terminal for use in a multi-point video conference system that includes a plurality of terminals connected to each other via a network, the terminal includes a compressor for packetizing video data inputted from a video camera, and outputting packetized data to the network. A decompressor receives a plurality of packets transmitted from other terminals via the network in a time sharing manner, and decompresses the received packets in an order of reception. The decompressor outputs decompressed video information. A plurality of storage elements store the decompressed video information in a frame unit. The contents stored in the storage elements are displayed on a display. A switch changes over the contents of the storage elements to supply the display.

  • Patent number: 5881064
Abstract: A node system for use in a data communication network including a plurality of source and destination data communication devices. The node system receives data packets from another node system, and forms image data from the received data packets. The node system selectively inserts fill codes into the image data so that such selective insertion of the fill codes prevents service interruption between the plurality of source data communication devices and the plurality of destination data communication devices by correcting a temporary inability to receive additional data, and by maintaining real time communication between the plurality of source data communication devices and destination data communication devices. The node system is capable of sending the image data and the fill codes to the plurality of destination data communication devices.

  • Patent number: 5790177
Abstract: The present invention describes a new digital video tape recorder apparatus and method in which video channels are simultaneously recorded in a recording mode, and in which any of the recorded video channels is reproduced when in a reproducing mode. The apparatus includes a first selector unit for generating signals for identifying one or more channels containing video signals to be recorded. A receiver sends the channel identifying signals to a transmitter, which, in turn, uses the channel identifying signals to selectively identify the channels to be transmitted to the receiver. The transmitter compresses and multiplexes the video signals of the channels selected by the receiver. The receiver receives the compressed and multiplexed signals, and records and stores the received signals. A demultiplexer selectively demultiplexes the channels transmitted to the receiver, and a memory records or stores the signals in the demultiplexed channels.

  • Patent number: 5767913
Abstract: A mapping system for producing event identifying codes includes a plurality of video-audio-data (VAD) marker channels representative of a method for coding and/or encoding signals such as video and non-video signals. At least one of the VAD marker channels includes a plurality of sub-bands indicative of video transform components. The processing method is implemented at least in part by modulating the non-video signals, if any, onto the transform components, and by generating video transform components therefrom; generating video transform components from the video signals, if any; selecting desirable video transform components corresponding to the non-video signals and to the video signals, if any; and allocating the selected desirable video transform components to the sub-bands.

  • Patent number: 5768517
Abstract: A paperless system that allows data including publications to be networked and retrieved includes a plurality of remote stations for transmitting the data to users, a plurality of local stations for connection to the plurality of remote stations via one or more communication links. The local stations are adapted to receive the transmitted data and to store the same, and are also adapted to be accessed bythe users to selectively retrieve the selected transmitted publications. A plurality of user stations are selectively linked to one or more of the plurality of local stations for enabling the users to retrieve the publications.
