Patent number: 9157564Abstract: A method and assembly for protecting a device connected to a wiring harness is disclosed. The assembly includes a protective shield having a bore for receiving the device and a positioning device. An elongated wiring harness extends from the device being protected and through the bore of the protective shield. The positioning device is formed having a band that surrounds a central space. At least one flexible, resilient finger extends radially inwardly from the band into the central space. At least one of the fingers forcibly engages the harness sleeve to maintain the positioning device and the protective shield in a predetermined protection position along the harness sleeve at least partially surrounding the device being protected.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2012Date of Patent: October 13, 2015Assignee: Federal-Mogul World Wide, Inc.Inventors: Timothy D. Sellis, David A. Harris, Kenneth C. Upton, Danny E. Winters, Samuel B. Fryberger, Jr.

Patent number: 6878873Abstract: A damped sleeve having a damping layer attached to a backing layer is disclosed. The damping layer is formed from a non-woven energy absorbing felt and is attached to the backing layer by lines of attachment which define pockets between the layers. The layers are positioned coaxially around an axis and define a central space for receiving elongated items to be protected from vibration. Resilient filamentary support members are arranged between the damping and backing layers to support the layers radially in spaced relation relative to the axis. The support members may be helically wrapped around the axis, circumferentially positioned or arranged in a zig-zag pattern transversely to the axis. A slit in the layers provides access to the central space.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2002Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Federal-Mogul World Wide, Inc.Inventors: Samuel B. Fryberger, Jr., Brian M. Snyder

Publication number: 20040219846Abstract: A composite sheet biasable into a tubular shape to form a sleeve for isolating or protecting elongated items is disclosed. The sheet has a reflective surface formed by a metal foil layer overlying a flexible polymer layer having a metalized surface. A biasable polymer netting layer is positioned overlying the flexible layer opposite the metalized surface. The netting layer is formed of elongated members that define interstices. A damping layer of non-woven material is positioned adjacent to the netting layer. An adhesive layer is positioned between the flexible layer and the netting layer to bond the netting layer and the damping layer to the flexible layer. Biasing is effected by the elongated members of the netting layer which are stiffer in the circumferential direction around the sleeve to provide radial stiffness.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 27, 2004Publication date: November 4, 2004Applicant: Federal-Mogul World Wide, Inc.Inventors: Timothy D. Sellis, Harry F. Gladfelter, Samuel B. Fryberger
