Publication number: 20100095540Abstract: A construction hole alignment device includes a tapered body having a smaller diameter first end, a larger diameter second end, and a series of stepped sections having progressively larger diameters extending between the first and second ends. The body has a central axis extending between the first and second ends, and the first end of the body includes a center aligned with the central axis. Each of the stepped sections has an annular outer wall. The tapered body includes flanges extending outwardly from the central axis for interconnecting adjacent stepped sections. The tapered body is insertable into a first construction hole until the outer diameter of one of the stepped sections matches the inner diameter of the first construction hole, whereby the center at the first end of the inserted body defines a target location for a second construction hole on a second floor.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 27, 2009Publication date: April 22, 2010Inventors: Samuel Berkman, Kenneth S. Patent number: 5134377Abstract: A leak detection system and method are disclosed in which an electrical circuit uses time domain reflectometry techniques to monitor one or more leak detection cables for impedance changes which are caused when a cable is contacted by a leaking liquid. The circuit of the system includes an electrical pulse generator means for generating a single electrical launch pulse, and for selectively transmitting the launch pulse down one of the cables. A delay means responsive to the launch pulse produces a reset signal upon the transmission of the launch pulse. A sensing means connected to a selected cable produces a trip signal upon receiving a reflected launch pulse which exceeds one or more predetermined thresholds. A latch means connected to the sensing means latches (sets) upon receiving the trip signal and unlatches upon receiving the reset signal. A counter means which is responsive to the reset signal and the trip signal measures a time difference therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1991Date of Patent: July 28, 1992Assignee: W. L. Patent number: 4430149Abstract: A single chamber continuous chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactor is described for depositing continuously on flat substrates, for example, epitaxial layers of semiconductor materials. The single chamber reactor is formed into three separate zones by baffles or tubes carrying chemical source material and a carrier gas in one gas stream and hydrogen gas in the other stream without interaction while the wafers are heated to deposition temperature. Diffusion of the two gas streams on heated wafers effects the epitaxial deposition in the intermediate zone and the wafers are cooled in the final zone by coolant gases. A CVD reactor for batch processing is also described embodying the deposition principles of the continuous reactor.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1981Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Assignee: RCA CorporationInventor: Samuel Berkman

Patent number: 4386255Abstract: A susceptor for use in a rotary disc reactor comprises a disc having a plurality of radial slots formed adjacent the periphery of the disc. The slots are circumferentially spaced from each other such that the oppositely-flowing heating currents in the sectors disposed between the slots are forced to be adjacent each other to cause a cancelling effect. A plurality of such discs may be supported in stack-like relationship by supporting posts having the ends thereof adapted to fit into the radial slots. Each disc also has radiation shielding means attached to and extending beyond the periphery thereof. The radiation shielding means is made of a material different from the susceptor material of the disc.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1981Date of Patent: May 31, 1983Assignee: RCA CorporationInventors: Samuel Berkman, John F. Patent number: 4334948Abstract: A method and apparatus for growing crystal ribbon from a liquid melt by the EFG technique includes the use of a die having a capillary feed passage adjacent the ribbon pulling mechanism and gas scrubbing passages on each side of the capillary feed passage. Thus, gas entrapped in the liquid melt can diffuse through the gas scrubbing passages to minimize the presence of microvoids in the ribbon. In a particular embodiment, the capillary die can include lateral communicating passages between the capillary feed passage and the gas scrubbing passage so that gas in the capillary feed passage can diffuse out to the gas scrubbing passage.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1981Date of Patent: June 15, 1982Assignee: RCA CorporationInventors: Samuel Berkman, Robert Metzl

Patent number: 4219063Abstract: An auxiliary tool for holding a rotatable fastener in engaged relation with a driving tool until the fastener can be started into the work is versatile and can be used with many different kinds of driving tools. In use, the present tool is secured magnetically to a ferrous metal portion of the driving tool. Spring rods on the tool can be separated and engaged with a fastener to hold the fastener therebetween and in engagement with the driving portion of the driving tool. Once the fastener is well started into the work, the present tool can be quickly and easily removed to permit the driving tool to be used alone.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1979Date of Patent: August 26, 1980Assignee: BST & Associates, Inc.Inventor: Samuel Berkman

Patent number: 4219062Abstract: A tool attachment for holding a fastener to a driver therefor comprises a magnetic holding assembly to which are attached spring fingers for grasping a fastener. The construction of the magnetic holding assembly provides for attachment of the device to elongated shafts of various shapes and sizes. The magnetic holding assembly is particularly characterized by an elongated, centrally-disposed pole piece which extends in the same direction as the axis of rotation of the shaft of the driver tool, when the attachment is in place. Magnets are attached to opposite sides of the pole piece in like-pole to like-pole relation, and the holding force so provided is quite high.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1979Date of Patent: August 26, 1980Assignee: BST & Associates, Inc.Inventor: Samuel Berkman
