  • Patent number: 9088589
Abstract: A bidirectional notification system and method for improving the quality of media in a packet switched transmission network are disclosed. The end user of the packet switched network detects impairments in the media and initiates a pull message to a media quality control system disposed between the end user and the packet switched transmission network. The pull message causes the detection subsystem of the media quality control system to improve the media flow in order to mitigate the impairment detected by the end user. The detection subsystem of the media quality control system may also detect impairments in the media without input from the end user and launch a push message in response to the detection of the impairment. The push message announcing the impairment is provided to the end user with either an audio or visual message.

  • Patent number: 8363573
Abstract: A method of ringcasting with improved reliability, in which a participant who is the source of content saves the signal in which the content is found, and compares received signals with the signal in which the content is found to ensure that the content has made it completely around the ring. If any particular piece of the content does not complete the ring, the content is re-transmitted from the participant around the ring. Sequence indices within the signal informs each participant of the sequence in which any particular piece of content is to be received so that, even if any particular piece of content is received out of order, it will be replaced in its proper sequence by a recipient.

  • Publication number: 20080165708
Abstract: A method for providing signals in a conference call among a plurality of participants, and a signal used in the method. The participants on the call are ordered in a sequential ring, and inputs, representing audio and/or video input, are taken from at least some of the participants in the ring during succeeding time intervals. The inputs are placed in a signal that contains header information specifying the location of inputs in the signal, and the participant from whom the input was taken. That signal is circulated about the ring during which each participant replaces its input in the signal from the prior cycle with a current input. The combined signal is then played to the participant.

  • Publication number: 20070143149
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use with a database that includes patient charts where each chart includes subsets of patient data, the method for allowing a physician to generate a custom report view (CRV) including at least a subset of the patient data, the method comprising the steps of, during a collection process, providing an interface that enables the physician to access the patient chart data, presenting patient chart data via the interface, receiving a selection from the physician via the interface that selects at least one subset of the chart data and rendering the selected data accessible in a data collector view (DCV) for subsequent use.

  • Publication number: 20060080140
Abstract: A system and method for providing a clinical summary of patient data in a health care setting. The system and method comprises a graphical user interface in communication with a health information system for accessing patient data. The graphical user interface is capable of displaying a clinical summary of patient data in a summary window in a textual format and a graphical format. The system and method further comprises a user record allowing a user to specify and configure the patient data displayed in the summary window. The user record includes configuration and security settings for selectively controlling the display of the user-specified patient data, and a user can select from the displayed patient data, access additional information about the selected patient data, generate detailed reports including the selected patient data, and generate graphical representations including the selected patient data.

  • Publication number: 20050131741
Abstract: An active guidelines capability or component is linked to a computerized patient record system to integrate the use of clinical guidelines in the workflow of clinicians treating patients. Many healthcare entities maintain sets of clinical guidelines describing recommended treatment or analysis options for patients displaying sets of symptoms or for whom certain diagnoses have been made. The active guidelines feature adds an active guidelines tag to such clinical guidelines so that when the clinician accesses the clinical guidelines and wishes to follow the recommendation, the clinician merely has to click on a hypertext created from the tag which then transmits action orders, also contained in the tag, to be transmitted to the computerized patient record system for implementation. Patient data associated with the recommendations, such as relevant test or lab results, interaction or allergy information, or other current treatments, is also identified and displayed.

  • Patent number: 6633854
Abstract: Systems and methods consistent with the present invention analyze control parameters of evolutionary algorithms. To this end, the system determines the value of a control parameter that controls the operation of the evolutionary algorithm. The system then executes the evolutionary algorithm according to the determined value of the control parameter to obtain a response value. Finally, the system determines an effect vector describing how a change in the value of the control parameter affects the response value. Systems and methods consistent with the present invention may also predict how changing the levels of a control parameter will affect the response value of the evolutionary algorithm. The system may also normalize an objective function of the evolutionary algorithm such that control parameters of the objective function have a relatively equal effect on the overall objective function.

  • Patent number: 5670845
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling the electrical functions in a plurality of different locations of a vehicle comprises a plurality of electrical control units connected to a data bus (23) and distributed throughout the vehicle. All control units are identical and all are programmed to carry out all the electrical functions of the vehicle. Each unit incorporates means to detect the resistance at the point at which it is connected into the circuitry and to compare that resistance with the stored table of resistance and to select on the basis of that comparison the program for operation appropriate to the particular location in which the unit is disposed. In this way only one unit needs to be certified and units may be switched from location to location to provide a "get you home" service should one of the units fail in a particularly critical location.
