Publication number: 20100107534Abstract: A modular layout form has a substantially planar rear for attachment to a support structure, and a substantially planar front having a two-dimensional array of receptacles for holding objects to be embedded in a settable material (e.g., concrete) in a predetermined pattern with staggered courses. The form has substantially straight lateral edges, which results in a pattern of incomplete receptacles along the lateral edges. Object-retention members (e.g., clips, tabs or elastomeric rims) extend into the receptacles for securing objects in the receptacles. Adjacent forms can be combined by abutting their lateral edges with their incomplete receptacles aligned to create completed receptacles. Objects are then inserted into the completed receptacles to engage the object-retention members and hold the adjacent forms together.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 3, 2008Publication date: May 6, 2010Applicant: SCOTT SYSTEM, INC.Inventor: Samuel C. Patent number: 5268137Abstract: An object retention form liner is described for use in holding and transferring objects, such as thin bricks to the finished surface of concrete structures. The form liner is produced by strategically positioning a plurality of bricks in a face-up position in a flat, shallow mold. Recesses sized to fit the bricks can be provided in the surface of the mold with a sealing ridge provided between each of the recesses. The bricks are positioned in the recesses and a liquid elastomeric material is poured into the mold to cover the bricks. Reinforcing fiberglass mesh can be embedded in the elastomeric material to provide additional tensile strength to the liner. Upon setting, the liner and retained bricks are removed from the mold and the liner can be stored, shipped or used in concrete construction. The liners are attached to the inside surface of concrete forms and the bricks are held rigidly in place while the concrete is poured and sets.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1992Date of Patent: December 7, 1993Inventors: Samuel C. Patent number: 5074517Abstract: A flexible reinforced concrete form line is provided which includes a plurality of elongated cuttable strips which are sized and embedded within the textured surface of the flexible form liner. The cross-sectional shape of the strips is substantially the same as the cross-sectional shape of the textured surface of the liner except smaller so that the thickness of the elastomeric material making up the liner is substantially constant throughout resulting in consistent expansion and contraction of the liner during setting of the concrete. The strips can be suspended within the liner during the elastomeric molding process or the strips can be directly attached to the plywood form backing sheet prior to the molding process. The total quantity of elastomeric material making up the liner can be greatly reduced which, in turn, reduces the weight of the overall form.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 1990Date of Patent: December 24, 1991Inventor: Samuel C. Patent number: 4798364Abstract: A flexible surface plywood concrete form liner is disclosed which includes a flat planar sheet of relatively thick plywood material which has been precisely sized and squared. The prepared plywood sheet material is coated with a layer of relatively thin, flexible elastomeric material cast as a one-piece layer over the entire surface of one side of the plywood sheet material as well as all four edges. In this way, the elastomeric material is a continuous integral coating bonded directly to the surfaces of the plywood to prevent the penetration of moisture or chemicals from the concrete into the laminations of the plywood during use. A textured negative impression can be provided on the outer surface of the elastomeric material to leave a textured surface in the finished concrete. A novel edge seal which can be slightly angled is formed along the edges of the liner so that the joint between the liners is reinforced to strengthen and prevent blow-out of the concrete at the liner joints.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1987Date of Patent: January 17, 1989Inventor: Samuel C. Patent number: 4017051Abstract: A lightweight, very strong form of a concrete beam includes a plurality of U-shaped brace members having vertical, lightweight steel deck sheets secured to the uprights thereof, a strippable, non-stick, plastic liner for contacting the concrete of the beam and a rigid foamed plastic filling the space between the liner and the steel sheets, so that it supports the weight of the concrete poured onto the strippable, plastic liner. A column form is arranged to mate with the beam form, and the beam form may be used to mate with flying deck forms producing an integral, combined column, beam and deck structure. The forms are arranged for easily joining short beam sections to make long beam forms, and to join columns and floor decks with a smooth joint requiring no finishing. The strength of the beam forms reduces the quantity of supports necessary to hold the weight of the forms and poured concrete, and their configuration provides easy and quick stripping of the forms from the set concrete.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1975Date of Patent: April 12, 1977Inventors: Samuel C. Scott, David R. Wells
