  • Patent number: 6691674
Abstract: A method and rocker arm assembly for actuating an engine valve are disclosed. The rocker arm may include an integrated hydraulic circuit used to control a lost motion piston. A reset piston may be included in the rocker arm to selectively reset the position of the lost motion piston. A control piston may also be included in the rocker arm to selectively lock the reset piston into a reset position. The rocker arm assembly may be used to achieve compression-release or bleeder braking, main intake, main exhaust, brake gas recirculation, and/or exhaust gas recirculation valve events.

Date of Patent: February 17, 2004
    Assignee: Diesel Engine Retarders, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4667970
Abstract: Chuck provides for each jaw an action bar extending substantially longitudinally of the chuck axis and rockable in an action plane radiating from the chuck axis and intersecting the jaw, and a pair of first and second slides for each action bar, with said slides being guided for movement in the associated action plane in opposite directions normal to the chuck axis, with the first slide pivotally supporting the bar intermediate its ends about an axis normal to the action plane, the second slide having with one end of the bar a floating pivot connection with its pivot axis extending normal to the action plane, and the other end of the bar having with the jaw a floating pivot connection with its pivot axis extending normal to the action plane, so that on moving the first slide relative to the other slide in opposite directions the bar is rocked about its floating pivot connection with the second slide as a fulcrum for opening and closing the jaw, and on moving the second slide relative to the first slide in opp

  • Patent number: 4424977
Abstract: Wedge chuck having grooves in the sides of each jaw and in the adjacent sides of its way in the chuck body, of which the grooves in all jaws form a given angle with a common plane normal to the chuck axis in which all jaws move, and the grooves in each way lie in a plane normal to the common plane and to the median plane of the associated way in which the chuck axis lies, and a jaw actuator guided in the chuck body for movement in the direction of the chuck axis and carrying sets of follower keys of which the keys of each set are received with a sliding fit in the grooves in a jaw and in the grooves in the associated way, whereby on back and forth movement of the actuator the grooves and follower keys cooperate to move the jaws to and from the chuck axis.

  • Patent number: 4314706
Abstract: Chuck installation with a cylinder and piston for fluid operation of the chuck jaws, providing a plunger projecting into the cylinder and movable in opposite directions for decreasing and increasing the volume of the cylinder and thereby increasing and decreasing the pressure of the operating fluid therein, and operating means, including weights, turning with the chuck and responsive to centrifugal force of these weights to force the plunger deeper into the cylinder for increasing the pressure of the operating fluid therein and thereby counteract operational centrifugal force of the jaws in operation of the chuck.

  • Patent number: 4249459
Abstract: Journalled in a peripheral groove in an operationally turning chuck body is a non-turning fluid coupling ring of which opposite side faces confront opposite side walls of the groove. Leading from annular ports in the groove walls are fluid passages which extend to chuck-closing and chuck-opening ends of a cylinder in the chuck body, and provided in the ring are fluid supply passages which lead to the opposite ring faces where they are in line with the ports in the confronting groove walls. The coupling ring has some lateral play in the body groove and acts as a shuttle valve in being operationally backed with either face into sealing engagement with the confronting groove wall by the pressure of operating fluid admitted to the port in the groove wall confronting the opposite ring face.
