  • Patent number: 6313473
Abstract: A device for producing apodized gratings on a stationary optical fiber. The device includes a slit-generating means, a stationary phase mask and a stationary writing-beam-generating means. A slit is generated by the slit-generating means. A writing beam is generated by the stationary writing-beam-generating means to pass through the slit and the stationary phase mask and then focus on the stationary optical fiber for a plurality of exposure time periods. The slit is adjustable in width so that the slit has a plurality of widths during the plurality of exposure time periods, respectively.

  • Patent number: 6309284
Abstract: A mass production polisher includes a polisher base, a polishing element, a rotary arm, a fixture, a force-cushioning means and a force-applying means. The polishing element is provided in the polisher base. The rotary arm is rotatably provided on the polisher base. The fixture is connected to the rotary arm for holding at least one object. The force-cushioning means is provided on the rotary arm. The force-applying means is also provided on the rotary arm for applying force through the force-cushioning means to the fixture so that the object pushes against the polishing element.

  • Patent number: 6222957
Abstract: A dispersion slope compensator includes a dispersion compensation fiber, an optical circulator and a plurality of fiber gratings. The optical circulator is connected between an optical fiber and the dispersion compensation fiber for introducing mixed optical signals propagating in the optical fiber into the dispersion compensation fiber. The fiber gratings are provided at predetermined positions of the dispersion compensation fiber so as to respectively reflect the mixed optical signals back to the optical fiber through the optical circulator. Thus, accumulated dispersions of the mixed optical signals are fully compensated due to different propagating distances of each of the mixed optical signals in the dispersion compensation fiber.

  • Patent number: 6175674
Abstract: An adjustable compensation device for fiber Bragg gratings. The device includes a bimetal structure and a fixture. An optical fiber provided with fiber Bragg gratings is connected to the bimetal structure. The fixture firmly holds the bimetal structure so that the bimetal structure behaves like cantilever beams to compensate pitches of the fiber Bragg gratings. Furthermore, a shim can be inserted between the bimetal structure and the fixture so as to incline the bimetal structure. The compensation for the change of the length of the optical fiber can be adjusted by changing the fixture and/or shim.
