  • Publication number: 20090325693
Abstract: A method for playing computer games whereas before the game starts, visual percept is present and the player learns the rules and options that the game provides, and during the game the screen is blank, i.e., no visual stimuli are presented. Players' actions are based on other modalities except vision. Playing the game might require all or part of the modalities of auditory and visual mental imagery percept, memory, hand movements, speech, physiological measurements and prediction of hand motor coordination.

  • Patent number: 5933210
Abstract: A method for presenting two simultaneous images having respective cross-sectional areas A.sub.1 and A.sub.2, on respective first and second 2-dimensional image arrays so as to be seen by an observer as a dichoptic stimulus of substantially equal intensity, involves the steps of generating a first one of the images at a predetermined first intensity on the first image array so as be perceived by a first eye of the observer only, and generating a second one of the images at a predetermined second intensity equal the first intensity multiplied by ##EQU1## on the first image array so as to be perceived by a second eye of the observer only. An apparatus for carrying out the method includes a pair of LCD image arrays and a pair of spectacles having prismatic elements for allowing objects to be viewed in a desired direction only.

  • Patent number: 5647834
Abstract: A method for effecting biofeedback regulation of at least one physiological variable characteristic of a subject's emotional state, comprising the steps of monitoring at least one speech parameter characteristic of the subject's emotional state so as to produce an indication signal, and using the indication signal to provide the subject with an indication of the at least one physiological variable. A system permits the method to be carried out in standalone mode or via the telephone line, in which case the indication signal may be derived at a location remote from the subject. Likewise, information relating to the subject's emotional state can be conveyed vocally to a remote party or textually through the Internet, and then processed as required.

  • Patent number: 5530492
Abstract: A method and system for presenting two successive images on a video display unit as a dichoptic stimulus of substantially equal intensity, wherein a first image is displayed at a predetermined intensity so as to be seen by a first eye of an observer only, an optical shutter being used to prevent the displayed image from reaching the second eye of the observer. The first image is then extinguished and the state of the optical shutter reversed so that the first eye can no longer see the video display unit whilst a second image is presented to the second eye. In order to prevent the second eye from seeing an after image of the first image, a neutral density filter or polarizer is disposed within the light path and the second image is illuminated at a correspondingly higher intensity so as to compensate for the attenuation factor of the neutral density filter or polarizer.

  • Patent number: 4360007
Abstract: An actuator device comprising a housing in which there is arranged a permanent magnet extending at 90.degree. from an axially supported member, said member being attached to a driving pawl via a springy leaf, the movement of said magnet being limited by two stop members attached to the bottom plate of the housing, a ratchet wheel with a plurality of teeth pointing downwards and adapted to be engaged by said pawl, another pawl attached to a springy member rigidly attached to said housing, the pawl being adapted to stop a reverse movement of the ratchet wheel, the arrangement being such that application of a magnetic field of adequate strength from a certain distance results in the movement of the magnet and the pawl attached thereto within the range defined by the stop members, each such movement resulting in the stepwise advance of the ratchet wheel by one tooth.
