Publication number: 20210355294Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic composition used for forming articles having both high gloss and excellent resistance to mar, scratch and/or abrasion. The composition contains very high levels of nano-sized inorganic additives, such as alumina, silica and titanium dioxide. Acrylic polymer compositions, such as Arkema's PLEXIGLAS® resins, with 5 to 25 weight percent of sized fumed silica are a preferred embodiment of the invention, especially when combined with a dye or pigment.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 16, 2018Publication date: November 18, 2021Inventors: Charles C. CRABB, Robert J. BARSOTTI, Joseph L. MITCHELL, Samuel SCHULTE, Brian M. CROMER, Jing-Han WANG

Patent number: 11008453Abstract: The invention relates to a thermoplastic article having a continuous polymeric phase and a discontinuous discrete phase distributed within the continuous phase. The discontinuous phase may be inorganic materials or an organic phase. The volume fraction of the discrete phase at the surface of the article is plus or minus 15% of the concentration of the additive as compared to the concentration of the additive in the bulk of the material (>20 micrometers). The invention also relates an article where the discrete additive forms domains in the surface region—potentially beneficial for gloss reduction or electrical conductivity. The invention finally relates to a process for forming a thermoplastic article with surface additive enhancement, with inclusion of inductive heating of one or more surfaces of the mold to induce the unique distribution.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2019Date of Patent: May 18, 2021Assignee: Arkema FranceInventors: Brian M. Cromer, Robert John Barsotti, Samuel Schulte

Patent number: 10486053Abstract: A template for properly determining the positions for the yardline numbers of an American-style football field includes a generally rectangular frame having an external perimeter and an internal opening defined by an internal perimeter. The shape of the internal opening, and the corresponding shape of the internal perimeter, is such that for each of the yardline numbers, i.e. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0, the internal perimeter defines a plurality of locations for abutting a corresponding plurality of outer edge portions of the yardline number. With the external perimeter appropriately aligned along one or more lines of the field, the frame can be used to properly locate any one of the six yardline numbers that are needed to properly locate all of the yardline numbers on an American-style football field. This frame reduces the number of templates needed to locate the yardline numbers of a football field, and also simplifies the process of properly locating the yardline numbers.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2016Date of Patent: November 26, 2019Assignee: Technology Licensing Corp.Inventor: Samuel Schulte
