    Abstract: An autonomous golf cart system includes an activator system configured to provide an activation signal, and an autonomous golf cart including a chassis, a plurality of tractive elements coupled to the chassis, a prime mover configured to drive at least one of the plurality of tractive elements to propel the autonomous golf cart, a steering system configured to steer at least one of the plurality of tractive elements, and a control system. The control system is configured to operate the autonomous golf cart in a manual mode, and operate the autonomous golf cart in an autonomous drive mode in response to receiving the activation signal from the activator system. When the autonomous golf cart is in the autonomous drive mode, the control system is configured to control the prime mover and the steering system to perform autonomous drive operations.

    Abstract: An autonomous golf cart is configured to automatically traverse a predefined cart path to a staging area near the green. The golf cart determines the green for the hole the golfers are playing and determines a final location proximate the green. The golf cart determines a route from the current location of the golf cart to the cart path, a route along the cart path, and a route from the cart path to the final location. The cart path is demarcated in various manners. The path markers may include unique visual features that can be captured by a camera on the golf cart for location determination. The golf cart generates a trajectory towards the next marker along the cart path and generates control actions to follow the trajectory.

The control system is configured to receive a summon command from a user, determine a location of the user, identify multiple routes from a current position of the autonomous golf cart to the location of the user, determine an optimal route from the multiple routes based on a cost function which considers at least a travel time and possible maneuvers of the autonomous golf cart, and operate the prime mover and the steering system to drive the autonomous golf cart to the location of the user using the optimal route.
