  • Patent number: 4571793
Abstract: A new process is provided for producing highly resilient, textured, continuous multifilament polymeric yarns and combinations of such yarns with other continuous filament yarns and with spun yarns. The unstable or wild loops which form in conventional air jet textured yarns are substantially eliminated in the product yarns of this invention. The product yarns are formed by continuously drawing polymeric yarn under controlled temperature conditions, texturing the yarn in an air jet texturizer and subjecting the textured yarn to saturated steam while restraining the linear shrinkage of the yarn in the presence of the steam, followed by continuous take-up of the yarn on a package.

  • Patent number: 4290177
Abstract: The air jet of the present invention is of the "bullet nose" type and is provided with a conical outer surface (32) on the exit end for directing the ambient air surrounding the exit end of the jet downwardly and inwardly to join the yarn and pressurized air leaving the exit orifice (22) of the jet. An "airfoil" type baffle (40) is spaced from the exit orifice (22) and includes an arcuate leading surface (41) positioned to be engaged by the yarn and pressurized air after leaving the exit orifice (22) and a substantially wedge-shaped portion extending away from the arcuate leading surface (41) and being defined by the converging upper and lower planar surfaces (43, 44). The baffle (40) is supported for adjustment to vary the downstream distance and the perpendicular position relative to the exit orifice (22).

  • Patent number: 4245378
Abstract: Air jets are normally designed for interlacing a particular size or type of multifilament yarns and are not normally designed for universal use in interlacing different types and sizes of yarns. The present interlacing air jet is provided with a rotationally adjustable air directing pin (27) provided with an air passageway (26) communicatively connecting an air entry passage (20) with a yarn processing bore (11) extending through the body (10) of the air jet. An annular groove (32) is also provided in the air directing pin (27) for directing air in semicircular paths of travel around the air directing pin (27). Rotational adjustment of the air directing pin (27) provides selective variation of the angle at which the air enters the yarn processing bore (11) and engages the yarn passing therethrough so that the air jet can be used to interlace different types and sizes of yarns.

  • Patent number: 4187593
Abstract: The air jet is provided with a first cylindrical baffle (A) and a second planar baffle (B) supported adjacent the exit orifice (30) of the air jet for successive engagement by the yarn (Y) leaving the air jet. The baffles (A) and (B) successively engage and deflect the yarn as well as the air leaving the exit orifice of the air jet so that two different types of treatment are imparted to the yarn by the successive baffles to permit higher operating speeds and to enhance the quality of the textured yarn. The homogeneous quality of the yarn is enhanced and the yarn exhibits a tighter yarn cross-section bundle because the exterior loop surface and the number of periodic balloons are both reduced.

  • Patent number: 4148116
Abstract: The baffle is in the form of a relatively thin flat plate supported in a fixed position substantially perpendicular to and spaced from the exit orifice of the air jet. The baffle is provided with an opening through which the yarn passes after leaving the exit orifice of the air jet. The opening produces a shock wave in the air leaving the exit orifice and passing through the opening and the yarn is drawn against an edge of the opening which functions as a twist trap. First adjustment means is provided for varying the distance between the baffle and the exit orifice and second adjustment means is provided for varying the perpendicular position of the baffle relative to the exit orifice. This baffle permits higher operating speed of the air jet and enhances the crimps, curls and loops imparted to the yarn by the air jet.

  • Patent number: 3979805
Abstract: This resonant baffle comprises a relatively thin rectangular plate which extends transversely of and is spaced from the exit orifice of the air jet. The baffle is hingedly supported for movement toward and away from the exit orifice and a leaf spring normally urges the baffle toward the exit orifice of the air jet. An adjustable stop screw is provided for limiting inward movement of the baffle. This resonant baffle permits higher operating speed, provides better integration and more uniform loop formation along the length of the textured yarn.
