  • Patent number: 9436254
Abstract: A method and apparatus for per core performance states in a processor. Per Core Performance States (PCPS) refer to the parallel operating of individual cores at different voltage and/frequency points. In one embodiment of the invention, the processor has a plurality of processing cores and a power control module that is coupled with each of the plurality of processing cores. The power control module facilitates each processing core to operate at a different performance state from the other processing cores. By allowing its cores to have per core performance state configuration, the processor is able to reduce its power consumption and increase its performance.

  • Patent number: 6980595
Abstract: A method and system for compressing video data in a computer has video processing that is distributed between preprocessing hardware in a video capture/controller card and a central processing unit of the computer. Frames of video data are passed to a motion estimation unit of the preprocessing hardware. This unit generates motion information describing inter-frame changes in the video data. Next, motion-compensated temporal filtering is performed on the frames of video data using the motion information. A video frame processing unit of the controller card, used for processing video data to the monitor, is reused for the temporal filtering of the input video data. Finally, the temporally-filtered video data is passed to the central processing unit, which performs inter-frame and/or intra-frame compression with reference to the motion information.

  • Patent number: 6849940
Abstract: An integrated circuit package includes a first or active substrate and a second or passive substrate. The active substrate includes at least one circuit that generates heat during circuit operation. The passive substrate does not include any heat-generating circuits, although the passive substrate may include passive, disabled or dormant circuitry. The two substrates are preferably fabricated of semiconductor material and have substantially equal coefficients of thermal expansion. The passive substrate is thermally coupled to the active substrate preferably using a thin layer of adhesive, such as an epoxy. The passive substrate serves to thermally conduct the heat generated by the circuits of the active substrate away from the active substrate. An internal metallic heat sink may be optionally thermally coupled to the passive substrate to further aid in the transfer of heat away from the active substrate.

  • Publication number: 20030163349
Abstract: A quality rating tool used for evaluating health care providers, such as medical groups or hospitals, and a method of creating a quality rating are described. A quality rating tool is organized based on medical groups and contains numerous measures that a health care consumer can use to determine a medical group best suited to the consumer's conditions and needs. The measures include safe dosing of pain killers, use of preferred antibiotics, and overuse of antibiotics in the clinical measures category and member cost pharmacy and member cost emergency room in the affordability measures category. Values in the quality rating for these measures and others are percentiles and, as such, inform the health care consumer of where a particular medical group ranked with respect to a specific measure.
