Patent number: 9481250Abstract: A mining vehicle includes electric components, devices or machines operating at alternating voltage and having a specific nominal voltage. Power is fed to the mining vehicle from an alternating current network with a specific voltage level. The mining vehicle further includes a transformer arranged to transform the voltage level of the alternating current network into the nominal voltage. When a voltage higher than the nominal voltage is fed to the transformer, the transformer lowers this higher voltage to the nominal voltage. When a voltage lower than the nominal voltage is fed to the transformer, the transformer raises the voltage to the nominal voltage. The transformer is arranged to feed the electric component, device or machine both when a voltage lower than the nominal voltage is fed to the transformer and when a voltage higher than the nominal voltage is fed to the transformer.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2012Date of Patent: November 1, 2016Assignee: SANDVIK MINING AND CONTRUCTION OYInventors: Jukka Osara, Samuli Kouhia

Publication number: 20140365052Abstract: The disclosure relates to a mining vehicle and to a method for its energy supply. The mining vehicle has a carriage, driving equipment for moving the carriage and at least one mining work device. The mining vehicle has a connection for supplying the mining work device from the electrical network of the mine and an energy source for supplying energy to the driving equipment. The energy source is charged by using a generator, and the mechanical energy arranged to rotate the generator is obtained from the electrical network of the mine, whereby the electric energy from the electrical network of the mine is transformed into mechanical energy, which is arranged to rotate the generator.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2014Publication date: December 11, 2014Inventors: Samuli KOUHIA, Mikko KOUVO

Publication number: 20140070754Abstract: A mining vehicle and a method of operating a mining vehicle. The mining vehicle includes a three or more phase electric drive motor. A nominal power of the drive motor is determined on the basis of a certain drive speed and load, whereby the drive motor has a nominal torque at a certain rotating speed. The drive motor is connected to a traction wheel of the mining vehicle using a fixed gear ratio. The rotation speed of the drive motor is controlled by using a motor controller. That drive motor is operated in a delta connection on the certain drive speed and when necessary the torque of the drive motor at a drive speed lower than the certain drive speed is increased by operating the drive motor in a star connection and simultaneously temporarily overloading the drive motor.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2013Publication date: March 13, 2014Applicant: Sandvik Mining and Construction OyInventors: Mikko Kouvo, Samuli Kouhia
