  • Patent number: 12722210
Abstract: A cylinder boring machine for machining a cylinder bore is disclosed. The cylinder boring machine includes a housing having cylinder block fixtures for receiving a cylinder block. The cylinder block includes the cylinder bore. The cylinder boring machine includes a working head positioned above the housing. The working head includes a tool holder. The tool holder receives a first boring tool insert and a second boring tool insert for operating in rough and fine boring cycles. The cylinder boring machine includes an operational panel and a controller communicatively connected to the operational panel. The controller operates the tool holder connecting the first boring tool insert followed by the second boring tool insert in the rough and fine boring cycles to axially move and rotate in opposite directions for removing the material from the surface of the cylinder bore, and eliminating torn and folded materials (TFM) left in the cylinder bore with the second boring tool insert.

  • Patent number: 12669073
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for machining valve seats in a cylinder head of an internal combustion (IC) engine are disclosed. The apparatus includes a spindle and a tool for machining said valve seats utilizing an automated cycle. The apparatus switches operation from the automated cycle to a manual mode upon detecting an irregularity in machining of the valve seat, for example. The apparatus allows an operator to adjust the spindle, the tool or the parameters in the manual mode. The apparatus switches the operation from the manual mode to the automated cycle based on the spindle, the tool or the parameters adjusted for machining the valve seats. The apparatus includes a rotary encoder configured to capture accurate position of the spindle, the tool, and rotation direction of the tool and provide feedback to the controller for optimizing the machining of the valve seats.

  • Publication number: 20250242421
Abstract: A tool for performing combined reaming and honing operations is disclosed. The tool includes a shank, a centering section positioned at a distal end of the shank, a reaming zone positioned proximity to the centering section, and a honing zone positioned proximity to the reaming zone. The shank connects to a machine via an adapter. The shank axially advances into a workpiece to be precision surfaced while rotating and reciprocating relative to the workpiece to be precision surfaced. The centering section centers and aligns the tool with the workpiece such that the workpiece comes in contact with the reaming zone followed by the honing zone. The reaming zone removes a stock of material from the workpiece and the honing zone removes the stock of said material for precision surface in the workpiece.
