  • Publication number: 20240121590
Abstract: Systems and method for wireless roaming include operating, via a wireless communication device, a first communication link between the wireless communication device and a first access point using a first media access control (MAC) layer of the wireless communication device; initiating, using a second MAC layer of the wireless communication device, a roaming handover with a second access point while the first communication link remains configured for transmitting and receiving application and/or IP layer communication packets; ceasing transmission and reception of the application and/or IP layer communication packets via the first communication link after the roaming handover has been initiated; and resuming transmission and reception of the application and/or IP layer communication packets with a second communication link between the wireless communication device and the second access point upon completion of the roaming handover.

  • Patent number: 10440595
Abstract: Apparatus and method for coverage hole detection in a wireless local area network (WLAN) using a mobile communication device. The method includes a first step of providing a plurality of access points distributed within the WLAN and at least one mobile communication device operable within the WLAN. A next step includes downloading triggers for respective coverage measurement conditions to the at least one associated mobile communication device from an associated access point. A next step includes detecting a coverage measurement condition by the at least one mobile communication device that activates one of the triggers, whereupon a next step includes sending a coverage measurement indicating the triggered condition from the at least one mobile communication device to an associated access point, which forwards a coverage incident report to a Central Report Manager.

  • Publication number: 20180176763
Abstract: A mobile device and method for network profile management is provided. An identifier of a network is received at the device. A time period is assigned to the identifier and the identifier and the time period are stored in association at a memory of the device. During the time period, the device: controls a communication interface to transmit the identifier of the network to scan for the network; and, when the network responds to transmission of the identifier, connects to the network using the communication interface. After the time period, the device: deletes the identifier and the time period from the memory; and stops transmitting the identifier when scanning for networks.

  • Publication number: 20180041512
Abstract: A notification framework for access point controllers is provided. An access point controller receives, from a device, a request for an application token associated with an application at the device, the application token configured to identify messages to the application when transmitted therewith. The access point controller transmits, to the device, the application token. When the device is to communicate with an applications server associated with the application, the device transmits the application token to the applications server, which transmits messages for the application to the access point controller which transmits the messages, with the application token, to the device. In response, the device can provide a notification of the message, and/or the device can establish a connection with the application server, at least temporarily.

  • Publication number: 20170026883
Abstract: Roaming performance of a mobile client exchanging data with a current access point (AP) is enhanced by discovering candidate APs available for roaming, combining information from the candidate APs to construct an aggregated fast transition (FT) request frame, and sending the aggregated FT request frame to an aggregated FT handler, which sends individual FT request messages to each candidate AP, receives individual FT response messages from each candidate AP, combines the individual FT response messages to construct an aggregated FT response frame, and sends the aggregated FT response frame to the client. The client selects a target AP from the candidate APs, constructs a reassociation request frame based on the aggregated FT response frame, sends the reassociation request frame to the target AP, receives a reassociation response frame constructed by the target AP based on the aggregated FT request and response frames, and exchanges data with the target AP.
