The method increases the standby battery life of a GSM mobile device by reducing monitoring of the serving cell's paging messages using a deterministic and adaptive procedure with zero impact on call performance, where the procedure reduces the frequency of reception of valid paging messages, intended for the device in the Paging Channel, by lengthening paging-read interval.
