  • Patent number: 5026355
Abstract: A needle assembly includes an elongate cannula having a first end, an opposite end and a sidewall therebetween. The cannula includes a lumen therethrough defining a cannula longitudinal axis. A hub having a proximal end, a distal end and a passageway therethrough defining a longitudinal axis is provided. The passageway includes an enlarged first portion at the distal end, a second portion adjacent to the first portion and a third portion adjacent to the proximal end. The cannula is positioned in the hub so that the opposite end is within the second portion and the first end projects outwardly from the distal end of the hub. The second portion includes a proximally located ledge for establishing the most proximal position of the cannula in the passageway and an inwardly projecting flange, located distally from the ledge, for contacting and holding a cannula with sufficient force to prevent the cannula from falling out of the hub.

  • Patent number: 4929232
Abstract: A syringe having tamper evidence features includes a barrel having a chamber for retaining fluid, an open proximal end, and a distal end having a passsageway therethrough in fluid communication with the chamber. A needle shield having a longitudinal axis, a distal end and an open proximal end slidably engages the distal end of the barrel covering the passageway. The shield includes an outwardly projecting shield lug having a cam surface. A collar having an annular side wall, an open proximal end and a distal end having an aperture therethrough, is adjacent to the distal end of the barrel with the needle shield projecting distally through the aperture. The apreture is sized so that the proximal end of the needle shield cannot pass therethrough. The collar includes an inwardly projecting lug having a follower surface for contacting the cam surface.

  • Patent number: 4300678
Abstract: A syringe package includes a hollow barrel and a slidable plunger inside the barrel extending out of its proximal end. A needle cannula extends from a distal end of the barrel. A shield covers the cannula and is connected to the barrel to provide a seal thereto. The shield has a frangible portion adapted to be ruptured so that a first portion of the shield is removable and a second portion remains connected to the barrel as evidence of a broken seal. A cap covers the proximal end of the plunger and is connected to the barrel to provide a seal. The cap has a frangible portion adapted to be ruptured so that a first portion of the cap is removable and a second portion is adapted to remain connected to the barrel as evidence of a broken seal at this end of the syringe.
