  • Patent number: 7855255
Abstract: Disclosed is a polyethylene composition. The composition comprises single-site multimodal resin A and single-site multimodal resin B, wherein resin A differs from resin B in molecular weight, in monomeric composition, in density, in long chain branch concentration or distribution, or in combinations thereof. Disclosed is also a method for making the polyethylene composition. The method comprises polymerizing, in the presence of two or more single-site catalysts, ethylene or its mixture with a C3-C10 ?-olefin to form a first multimodal resin and continuing the polymerization in the presence of the same catalysts but in a different hydrogen concentration, in a different monomer composition, or at a different temperature to form a second multimodal resin.

  • Patent number: 6884749
Abstract: Olefin polymerization in the presence of heterogeneous supported catalysts is improved by incorporating into the supported catalyst a unifunctional hydrophobic tether comprising a hydrophobic portion containing no basic nitrogen and a univalent reactive group. The unifunctional hydrophobic tether reduces fouling and sheeting in gas phase polymerization processes and improves polymer morphology and bulk density in slurry polymerization processes, while substantially maintaining or enhancing catalyst polymerization activity.

    Filed: October 17, 2002
Date of Patent: April 26, 2005
    Assignee: Equistar Chemicals L.P.
Inventors: Karen L. Neal-Hawkins, Sandor M. Nagy, William J. Sartain, Kiran Gupte, Kenneth W. Johnson
  • Patent number: 6780807
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved acyclic anionic six-electron-donor ancillary ligand suitable for being bonded in a transition metal complex. The present invention also provides a transition metal complex that includes at least one acyclic anionic six-electron-donor ancillary ligand which is suitable for use as an olefin polymerization catalyst. The complex includes a Group 3 to 10 transition or lanthanide metal and one or more anionic or neutral ligands in an amount that satisfies the valency of the metal such that the complex has a net zero charge. The present invention also discloses a method for making transition metal complex and a method for using the complex for olefin polymerization.

  • Patent number: 6025407
Abstract: Disclosed is a process for polymerizing vinyl chloride monomer in the presence of light. A mixture is formed of liquid vinyl chloride monomer, preferably about 10 to about 250 ppm of a metallocene catalyst, about 1 to about 2000 moles of an aluminum-containing cocatalyst per mole of catalyst, and up to about 500 moles of a Lewis base per mole of aluminum in the cocatalyst. Selected alkyl groups from the aluminum-containing cocatalyst can be placed on the ends of the poly (vinyl chloride) chains.

  • Patent number: 6001937
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of inhibiting the formation of scale on reactor surfaces in contact with a polymerizing vinyl monomer. The reactor surfaces are contacted with a composition that contains, as a scale reducing agent, an acidic hydrazone condensate or a salt thereof. The scale reducing agent can be added to the polymerizing monomer or it can be placed in a composition containing a surfactant and an inorganic binder and the composition can be applied to the reactor surfaces or added to the monomer.
