  • Patent number: 4744304
Abstract: The tamping machine is provided with tamping units on which each tamping tool (8) is articulated on a junction lever (26) controlled for work pivoting by a piston-cylinder unit (28) connected to a forced oscillation generator (24).The tamping tool (8) can be lifted into out-of-use position on the junction lever (26) by means of an intermediate lever (30) driven by a second hydraulic piston-cylinder unit (31), this intermediate lever being connected to said tool by a connecting link (36). In the lowered working position, the articulation (29) of the intermediate lever and the two articulations (34, 35) of the connecting link are aligned and the piston-cylinder unit (31) for the driving of the intermediate lever is abutted at the end of its stroke. As a result, the tamping tool (8) constitutes the equivalent of a rigid tool with respect to the transmission of the tamping and forced-oscillation forces.

  • Patent number: 4744303
Abstract: The tamping machine is equipped with tool holders (7) on which each of the two tools (8) of a pair of tamping tools is connected by a cylinder-piston unit (28), via an eccentric arm (25, 25'), to one of the two eccentrics (24, 24') of the output shaft (33) of a forced oscillation generator. Each of the two eccentric arms (25, 25') has, in addition to its articulation to one of the two eccentrics, a second articulation connected directly to a hydraulic cylinder-piston unit (28) and a third articulation (29) connected by a connecting link (30) to a pivot (31) fastened on the tool holder, said last connection having the purpose of immobilizing the two eccentric arms in rotation around the eccentric shaft (33). This transmission of movements, designed to facilitate the maintenance of the hydraulic cylinder-piston units (28), is also shown applied to two and three pairs of tamping tools juxtaposed in the same plane.

  • Patent number: 4466355
Abstract: The tamping machine is equipped with tamping units having tools (4) intended to be used for tamping both on the open track and of the switch gear. These tools are mounted on a frame (7) which is mounted for vertical movement in a gantry (8) suspended from the chassis (1) of the tamping machine by a double articulation (13, 14, 15), imparting to this gantry a transverse and longitudinal pendulum mobility with respect to the track. In order to be able to adapt the length of the compacting effected by the tools (4) in their two uses, each of these tools has two interchangeable lockable work configurations, one of which is formed of a single pick (22, FIG. 2) for the tamping of the switches and the other of which is formed of two picks (21, 22, FIG. 3) juxtaposed in the transverse direction of the track, for the tamping of the open track.

  • Patent number: 4395953
Abstract: A tamping machine having a chassis mounted on two trucks and track displacement tools as well as tamping tools arranged on the chassis between the two trucks is disclosed. On the front part of the chassis, two cabs are installed on opposite sides of a power plant arranged on the chassis, and the rear portion of this chassis is free of any superstructure. The first cab has a first driving station and a station for displaying and setting the track displacement values overlooking the front of the tamping machine, and the second cab has a second driving station overlooking the rear of the machine and a tamping operator station overlooking the track displacement tools and tamping tools. The control stations are thus grouped in two cabs at their optimum locations.

  • Patent number: 4331082
Abstract: Tamper whose rolling chassis (34) comprises, arranged between two trucks (35 and 36), tools for tamping (31) and displacement (32) of the track (3) as well as a power plant (37) which are fastened below a bridge-shaped part (33-330) of this chassis. On the front of this tamper there is installed a cab (26) which is extended to above the tools and in which there are combined a control station (25) for these tools which provides a view of them through a window (29), two driving stations (27, 270), a station for the setting and posting (28) of the prescribed values of the displacements of the track obtained at the level of the displacement tools (32), and a station (40) for verification of the actual displacements of the track obtained after tamping. On the rear of this tamper, arranged as a loading platform (38), there is carried, during the travel to the work a truck (39) for measuring said actual displacements.

  • Patent number: 4218978
Abstract: Apparatus for tamping the bed of a railway track comprises a wheel mounted tamping machine frame on which is mounted a vertically displaceable support for tamping tools. The tools are mounted on the tool support in opposed pairs and each tool comprises an arm having at least one pick extending therefrom and provided at its lower end with a blade. A motor driven crank-shaft is journalled in a bearing rigidly connected to the tool support and includes eccentric bearings on each of which the arm of a tamping tool is pivoted by its end remote from the blade so as to impart vibratory oscillations to the tool. So that substantially only generally horizontal vibratory oscillations are transmitted to the blade, the arms of the tools are formed of a generally squarely elbowed configuration, and are each connected to the tool support by a double-acting piston cylinder.
