  • Patent number: 11043142
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer instructions for virtual radiation oncology training are provided. The methods can allow for screening of many virtual patients in a clinical setting for radiation oncology training. The methods, system, and computer instructions can include receiving a medical record for a virtual patient, presenting the medical record to a trainee, receiving a treatment plan for the virtual patient from the trainee indicating an area to be treated and dose constraints, and computing one or more comparison metrics for the treatment plan.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 9, 2016
Date of Patent: June 22, 2021
Assignee: University of Florida Research Foundation, Inc.
Inventors: Frank J. Bova, Sanford L. Meeks, Twyla R. Willoughby

  • Publication number: 20030206614
Abstract: An apparatus and method of irradiating a patient with radiation beams that converge at an isocenter. The patient is constrained to a frame which is helpful in substantially aligning the isocenter with a target tissue, such as a tumor, in the patient.

  • Patent number: 6390982
Abstract: A system comprising a combination of an ultrasound probe and both passive and active infrared tracking systems. The combined system enables a real time image display of the entire region of interest without probe movement; real time tracking of the target region permitting physiological gating; and probe placement during image acquisition so that all external displacements introduced by the probe can be accounted for at the time of treatment planning. This system may be used in the surgical arena for image guidance during radiation therapy and surgery.
