  • Publication number: 20020186927
Abstract: An optical fiber grating coder includes predetermined codewords imprinted into an optical fiber in the form of a plurality of striations through an apparatus including a light source, an amplitude mask, and a phase mask. A fabrication method of the optical fiber grating coder includes providing a light source, an amplitude mask designed for predetermined codewords, a phase mask, and an optical fiber; exposing the optical fiber; and forming an optical fiber grating coder into the optical fiber. A fabrication apparatus of the optical fiber grating coder includes a light source; an amplitude mask designed for predetermined codewords; a phase mask; and an optical fiber where the optical fiber grating coder is to be formed.

  • Publication number: 20020075558
Abstract: The present invention relates to a wavelength converter apparatus for ultra-high speed optical signal process. So, the present invention (a)embodies a wavelength converter which does not need an outer pump light by composing a semiconductor optical amplifier-ring type laser and (b)provides a wavelength converter apparatus for ultra-high speed optical signal process which embodies to be always operated wavelength conversion to be always possible within the amplifying bandwidth(about 40 mm) of SOA by a wavelength-tunable optical band pass filter deposited in a laser resonator.

  • Publication number: 20020063944
Abstract: The present invention provides an ultra-high speed optical wavelength converter apparatus for enabling extraction of all optical lock signals which implements an ultra-high speed wavelength converter without an external pump light by constructing a semiconductor-fiber ring laser (SFRL) in which a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is used as a laser gain medium and simultaneously implements a clock pulse generator for generating an optical pulse string which is injection mode-locked by an input signal light, and then is phase-locked with an input signal string.

  • Patent number: 6356685
Abstract: The gain control device in a semiconductor optical amplifier using an optical fiber grating includes an input unit for receiving an optical signal, an output unit for outputting an amplified optical signal, and input and output optical isolators connected to the input and output units to establish paths of the input and output optical signals. The gain control device further includes a tension-controllable optical fiber grating connected to the input optical isolator for fine adjustment of a reflection peak wavelength. A semiconductor optical amplifier connected to the tension-controllable optical fiber grating is also provided to amplify the optical signal. A power supply supplies power to the semiconductor optical amplifier to drive the optical amplifier. In addition, an optical fiber grating is connected to the semiconductor optical amplifier and has a predetermined reflection peak wavelength.
