Abstract: An LCD device is discussed, which comprises first and second substrates confronting each other; a liquid crystal layer between the first and second substrates; and red, green, blue, and fourth color filters on the first substrate; wherein the fourth color filter is formed of any color whose transparency is better than that of at least one of the red, green, and blue color filters, and wherein an effective area of the fourth color filter is smaller than that of at least one of the red, green, and blue color filters. The LCD device can display white color with good transparency by properly adjusting the effective areas of the four color filters, whereby there is no need to modulate light for display of the white color in a backlight unit, to thereby improve luminance of light emitted from the backlight unit.

Abstract: An LCD device and a manufacturing method thereof having improved transmittance and contrast ratio are disclosed. According to the LCD device and the manufacturing method thereof, a first common electrode which includes first and second horizontal electrode bars and a plurality of first vertical common electrode bars is disposed on a layer different from a second common electrode which includes a third horizontal common electrode bar and a plurality of second vertical common electrode bars. A pixel electrode which includes a horizontal pixel electrode bar and a plurality of vertical pixel electrode bars is disposed on the same layer as the second common electrode. The second common electrode is connected to the first common electrode.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device of an in-plane switching mode and a method for manufacturing the same are disclosed. The liquid crystal display device of an in-plane switching mode includes gate lines and data lines which cross each other on a substrate to define pixel regions, thin film transistors which are formed at crossing portions of the gate lines and the data lines, first common lines formed on the same layer as the gate lines, first electrode fingers which have a plurality of diverged first fingers and include L-shaped protruded patterns at one ends of the first fingers in the pixel regions, and second electrode fingers which have second fingers formed alternately with the first fingers and include |-shaped patterns at one ends of the second fingers in the pixel regions, wherein the L-shaped protruded patterns and the |-shaped patterns overlap partly with the first common lines.

Abstract: Disclosed is a liquid crystal display (LCD) device equipped with a resin black matrix, capable of preventing the light leakage phenomenon by improving an OD (optical density) value of the resin black matrix. The LCD device includes an array substrate formed with a thin film transistor and a pixel electrode, a color filter substrate aligned opposite to the array substrate and formed with a resin black matrix and a color filter, a liquid crystal layer aligned between the array substrate and the color filter substrate, and lower and upper polarizing plates attached to outer surfaces of the array substrate and the color substrate and having transmission axes extending in the same direction. The resin black matrix has a transmission axis perpendicular to the transmission axes of the lower and upper polarizing plates so that the resin black matrix has a polarizing function.
