  • Patent number: 6903514
Abstract: An erasing method and apparatus for a plasma display panel that is capable of minimizing spurious wall charges left after an erasing discharge. • Patent number: 6853145
Abstract: A method and apparatus of driving a plasma display panel that is adaptive for making a stable operation at both a low temperature and a high temperature. In the apparatus, a scan driver supplies a rising ramp waveform in a set-up interval and a falling ramp waveform in a set-down interval. A temperature sensor senses a driving temperature of the panel to generate a bit control signal. A set-down control signal generator generates a control signal such that an application time of the falling ramp waveform can be controlled in correspondence with said bit control signal and for applying the control signal to the scan driver.

  • Publication number: 20040119665
Abstract: A method and apparatus of driving a plasma display panel that is adaptive for making a stable operation at both a low temperature and a high temperature. In the apparatus, a scan driver applies a first sustaining pulse to a scan electrode during a sustain period. A sustain driver applies a second sustaining pulse alternating with said first sustaining pulse to a common sustain electrode during said sustain period. A sustain voltage source supplies a driving voltage to the scan driver and the sustain driver such that the first and second sustaining pulses can be applied. A controller controls a voltage value of said driving voltage in correspondence with a driving temperature at which the panel is driven.

  • Publication number: 20020135546
Abstract: A method of driving a plasma display panel wherein a selective inversion system is used to perform an address operation. In the method, a reset step makes an entire write discharge of the cells to form wall charges. An address step makes an address discharge of specific cells of the cells undergoing said entire write discharge to invert the polarities of the wall charges of said specific cells and to keep the polarities of the wall charges according to said entire write discharge as they are at the remaining cells excluding said specific cells. A sustain step makes a sustain discharge of only the specific cells having the inverted wall charge polarity by a sustain pulse. Accordingly, a data is written by the selective inversion addressing method to permit a high-speed driving and to prevent a contrast deterioration.

  • Patent number: 6198476
Abstract: A method of and system for driving a plasma display panel (PDP), which is designed to increase the amount of data processed in unit time. The method includes the steps of dividing row electrodes into at least two groups, splitting the field, and applying driving pulses to each split field with a phase difference. Also, the present invention uses a lower bit preceding scanning method where the bits of a digital picture signal are aggregated by bits of a kind from the most significant bit to the least significant bit and divided into a plurality of pairs of upper and lower bits as (lower bit, upper bit), the lower bit in each pair of bits being successively scanned, followed by a scanning of the upper bit in each pair of bits. Thus, the efficiency of the AC PDP is enhanced with the reduction in the time needed to construct the field, and readily driving a field even when the amount of data to be scanned is increased.
