    Abstract: Selection of a relay station in a broadband wireless communication system is provided. In the broadband wireless communication system, a Base Station (BS) includes a sorter for generating a first index group in which indices of relay stations are sorted according to channel information between the BS and each relay station; a receiver for receiving a second index group in which the indices of the relay stations are sorted according to channel information between a Mobile Station (MS) and each relay station; and a selector for selecting a relay station to be used to communicate with the MS by using the first index group and the second index group.

    Abstract: A frequency allocation method and apparatus using a mirroring-assisted frequency hopping pattern is provided for retransmission in a wireless communication system operating in frequency hopping mode. A frequency allocation method for a wireless communication system operating in frequency hopping mode includes generating a mirroring pattern having a mirroring-assisted frequency hopping interval identical with a data retransmission interval; and allocating different frequency bands for an initial transmission and retransmission by performing frequency hopping according to the mirroring pattern. Preferably, the mirroring-assisted frequency hopping interval is shorter than the data retransmission interval.

    Abstract: A sounding reference signal transmission method which is efficient in an uplink wireless telecommunications system using a multiple antenna technique and sounding reference signal hopping. A terminal using the multiple antenna technique is equipped with a plurality of antennas, and a base station receives the sounding reference signal transmitted from these antennas and estimates the uplink channel state of each antenna. Moreover, the sounding reference signal performs frequency hopping so that the base station determines the channel condition for the entire bandwidth to which data is transmitted in the uplink system. The sounding reference signal is transmitted through an antenna pattern in which the sounding reference signal can be transmitted through the entire data transmission bandwidth of the uplink system for each antenna of the terminal without additional overhead in this environment.

The method includes transmitting symbols of the CS RS channel through an entire system band in a previously selected at least one of Long Blocks (LBs) constituting one time slot of a subframe; and transmitting symbols of control channels through a predetermined band in LBs remaining after symbols of the CS RS channel are applied in the time slot, by applying an orthogonal sequence determined according to the number of LBs to which symbols of the CS RS channel are applied.

    Abstract: A channel estimation method in a wireless communication system based on multicarrier-code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) using frequency interleaving. A transmitter generates transmission symbols using a pilot signal (P) and an inverted pilot signal (?P) according to subcarriers on which spread symbols generated from a spectrum spreading operation are sent, performs an interleaving operation for the transmission symbols in a frequency domain, and transmits a result of the interleaving operation. A receiver extracts the pilot signal (P) and inverted pilot signal (?P) included in the transmission symbols and performs channel estimation.
