Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for providing a security mechanism guaranteeing transparency at a transport layer. The method includes: receiving a data packet from an application program, and searching key information corresponding to the data packet in key information database; determining whether to request a key exchange module of an application layer for a new key negotiation according to a result obtained by searching key information; and performing encrypting/decrypting based on key information when the key exchange module stores key negotiation information obtained by the new key negotiation in a kernel. The apparatus encrypts/decrypts the data packet at the transport layer of the kernel, thereby providing the application program with security transparency, effectively controlling and making it easily expansible.

Abstract: A control method of a display apparatus having a display panel formed with a plurality of pixels is provided. The method includes: detecting high gray level pixels having gray scale values greater than a predetermined high gray scale value; detecting a highlight zone including the detected high gray level pixels, wherein a gray scale value difference between boundary pixels of the highlight zone and adjacent pixels is greater than a predetermined reference difference; and applying a gray scale value greater than a gray scale value of the high gray level pixels to a surrounding zone adjacent to the highlight zone.

Abstract: Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for controlling lamps which are provided in a dispenser and a backlight of a manipulation button array. According to the present invention, at least one lamp is provided in the dispenser and an illumination sensor for sensing the surrounding brightness of a refrigerator or a sensor for detecting a user approaching the refrigerator is also provided. There is also provided a memory unit for previously storing a reference luminous intensity, the value of which is capable of being changed by the user. There is also provided a lamp driving unit for selectively controlling the brightness of the lamp by controlling the output signal thereof according to a driving control signal of a control unit. According to the present invention, the user can easily take ice or water from the dispenser because the lamp is turned on.

Abstract: A method for controlling an information display using an avatar of a washing machine is disclosed, which displays all information associated with usage- and control-information of the washing machine via the avatar, and allows a user of the washing machine to easily recognize the usage- and control-information of the washing machine, resulting in increased information transmission characteristics of the washing machine. Basic usages of the washing machine, and various methods for displaying operation- and control-states of the washing machine will be indicated by at least one dynamic character, such that a user of the washing machine can easily recognize necessary information of the washing machine, resulting in not only increased information transmission characteristics of the washing machine but also emphasized entertainment elements required by modern consumers of the washing machine.

Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for cryptographing and/or deciphering an image. The apparatus includes an image segmenting unit, a random image generating unit, a cryptographing unit, and a phase card generating unit. The image segmenting unit segments an input binary image into images. The random image generating unit generates as many random images as the segmented images. The cryptographing unit performs XOR operations on the segmented images and the random images on a one-to-one basis to produce as many cryptographed images as the segmented images. The phase card generating unit assigns phase values of &pgr; and 0 to black and white pixels of the cryptographed images to generate phase cards corresponding to the cryptographed images.

Thus, independant systems or additional programs for multimode systems are not necessary.

Abstract: In a microprocessor controlled television set, a method for automatically turning on the set which was turned off due to power line noise includes steps for determining when the set is turned off due to noise, storing first data indicative of a prior-to-turn-off state of the set when the set is turned off due to noise and comparing the first data with second data indicative of a turned-off state when noise is removed. As a result of the comparison step, when the fist and second data are the same, the set is automatically turned on. However, if the first and second data are different from one another, the set is re-initialized using the first data. According to one aspect of the invention, when the set is re-initialized, the set must be turned on using a key manipulation. Thus, the user does not need to turn on a set manually when the set has been turned off due to power line noise.

Abstract: A remote control method for controlling a video apparatus such as a television or videocassette recorder includes the steps of displaying a cursor on a display screen in response to a movement of the remote controller; displaying a main menu according to a key input of the remote controller while a cursor is displayed on the display screen; selecting the desired main menu by moving the cursor and displaying a sub-menu belonging to the selected main menu while the main menu is displayed on the display screen; displaying a control menu belonging to the selected sub-menu when the desired sub-menu is selected by moving the cursor while the sub-menu is displayed; and performing the corresponding function when the desired function is selected by moving the cursor while the control menu is displayed, to thereby select the menu by a cursor and reduce the number of function keys of the remote controller, and thus easily control the video apparatus.
