  • Publication number: 20160021884
Abstract: A composition comprises 5-15 wt % of the potassium salt of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (K-BIT) calculated as 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT), 2-12 wt % of a nonionic surfactant, and at least 70 wt %. The presence of the nonionic surfactant stabilizes an aqueous solution of the composition at a temperature of ?5° C. A method of stabilizing an aqueous solution comprising 5-15 wt % of the potassium salt of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (K-BIT) calculated as 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) and at least 70 wt % water at a temperature of ?5° C., includes the step of incorporating within the aqueous solution an amount of the nonionic surfactant so that the aqueous solution has 2-12 wt % of the nonionic surfactant.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 28, 2014
    Publication date: January 28, 2016
    Inventors: Carsten BERG, Sangita Singh
  • Patent number: 9067899
Abstract: Sodium sulfide hydrate is at least partially dehydrated by heating with N-methyl 2-pyrrolidone. 2-Chlorobenzamide is added to the mixture which is heated further. The mixture is cooled and treated with aqueous hydrogen peroxide to give the sodium salt of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one in good yield. Acidification if desired gives rise to the free 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 23, 2013
Date of Patent: June 30, 2015
    Assignee: TITAN CHEMICALS LIMITED
Inventors: Carsten Berg, Sangita Singh, Ian Roger Marsh
